Earlier this week, AIMBE hosted 60 trainees for our Public Policy Institute (PPI) for Rising Leaders in D.C.

Since 2014, this two-day workshop exposes attendees to the importance of advocacy for biomedical research by demonstrating how public policies shape the overall scientific enterprise 🧪

Welp. Thanks to the Republican gov shutdown I have a bunch of hours back in my week due to a NIH study section not meeting.

These poor applicants. They will be waiting week by week for government to reopen and to find out what will happen to their grant application.

Today's response by UT-Austin, Vanderbilt and U of Arizona to the Trumpian Higher-Ed "Compact" will tell us many things, including what institutional leaders think of their own world-class faculty & researchers and whether or not they need 'special treatment' (hint: they do not).

A university that signs the “compact” is one that acknowledges its own inability to compete and succeed based talent and merit. It would signal insecurity and mediocrity to current and future students and faculty. Say no. Recruit the best people, protect their freedom and support their hard work.

And now UVa rejects the compact.

Brown is out! They had to do more dancing in their letter because they previously capitulated and needed to reference their previous agreement but, at its core, this reiterates MIT's letter.
