I'm reading Bono's autobiography and he talks about his first car, when U2 was starting out, and it was Fiat 127. His dad had a Hillman Avenger, if I remember right.

Now you've got me playing this game. Not very good at it though.
Should have gone with my gut on the first guess.

Got all the work I can from below done. 6 of the 9 hoses off, 3 of the 4 bolts off.
I can't imagine doing this from the top with the transmission in place. Much of what I just did would have been blind or nearly so, including these two bolts that required an extension through wiring and a bracket.
Got the second new seal in. Amazing how simple it is to get right with the proper tool.
28.02.2026 21:37 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Also got the flywheel resurfaced. The pressure plate mounts on raised pads, so it's a 2 step resurface, 1st the wear surface, then the pads to maintain the offset. That means the 3 dowels had to come out. 2 of the 3 put up a fight, turning an $80 job into $300. Still better than $500 for a new one.
28.02.2026 21:37 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0This is that manifold (pic from 3SX.com). It spans both heads and there are *nine* hoses and a pipe from the water pump connected to it. Should be a treat. I wouldn't have caught the leak if the trans wasn't out. It's barely leaking, but it makes sense to fix it now because it will get worse.
28.02.2026 19:57 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I noticed that in the 6 months (!) it's been on the lift a small amount of coolant has been on the floor. I found drips on the RR trans brace and up above a wet bolt on the coolant manifold, so I'm draining coolant to deal with that while it's more accessible.

I also cleaned up the inside of the bell housing.
I tried to confirm the bearing preloads as well, but I don't have the $700 bearing race puller to do it properly. The FR diff and FR output shaft feel right, but I'm not sure how to confirm the counter shaft. But I've got other concerns...
I did get some work done on the Stealth while I was on my social media break. I installed the new rear main seal - incorrectly. It's supposed to be 1mm recessed, mine ended up 2-3. Does it matter? Maybe not, but I don't want to do it again, so I ordered another and the special tool for setting it.

Dad's 1977 Cutlass Supreme from inside his friend's late 70s Grand Prix in the DC area in 1980.
The projector bulb failed shortly after this. More likely on the next trip in a few weeks.
More slides from mom & dad's.
We moved in 1976, so dad pushed his 1937 Ford project out and he and I washed it before getting towed to the new house. His friend towed it across town with his second gen Barracuda.
It stayed in the corner of the new garage for ~10 yrs untouched before he sold it.
Dad's 1965 Barracuda some time in the 60s, maybe only a year or two old. That's a picture of a slide projected on a screen.

Our president of peace strikes (pun intended) again.
A bit apprehensive of what he just started.
I forgot how many names these things had.

Honestly, buy the right brand is key.
Yes, you can do things to make it last, but if it wasn't designed for longevity there's only so much you can do.
I also told them, if you are on a hill and worried about rolling back, give it plenty of gas and dump the clutch. You'll look silly but you won't roll back.
Of course, this is better advice for a 1998 Ford Escort than a C6 Corvette. π
That's been my method with my kids. Get it moving reliably clutch only without killing it, then we move on to the gas pedal.

Imagine tying critical safety features to unreliable voice commands.
Also imagine trying to get the lights back on *at speed* using those same unreliable voice commands.
First crop could be 2 things, not enough detail to know for sure. I guessed right.
