Unsolicited writing advice, no. 165:
Don't wait for inspiration. It's rare and unpredictable. Hard work, lots of practice, editing, and rewriting is what matters every time.
Cover of Fight Like A Girl #2. Art by Oisin McGann. Image is of a brown-skinned girl in light armour wielding a Very Big Sword. She is surrounded by images of other things she might use to fight, not all of them obviously weapons.
With stories by Danie Ware, Juliet McKenna, Anna Smith Spark and many others, Fight Like A Girl #2 was a feature on award short lists this year. Find out why people love it so much:

I want to do a boast.
I finished my MA in Classics and I just found out this week that I got a distinction. I am very very proud of myself.
My dissertation was on women in Ancient Rome who wore the toga. Ask me anything. Really anything (about my subject, or I'll try more broadly in Classics).
The Court families are very into their history. I ought to be, but in all honesty, I joined more for the bit where you get to guide people all over the world. Turned out more of it is close to home than I expected, but there you go. We all make decisions we donβt fully understand the implications of in our youth, donβt we? Anyway. Itβs damp down here, and only a little light comes through the tree roots. I turned my hands over one another, muttering the rhyme, and my guide-light appeared. βThis way, my lady.β I started along the main road. The cobbles were moss-slick underfoot, and buildings in various states of ruin loomed in the shadows to either side. Grey stone, mostly, like the oldest chapterhouse buildings. Lady Arel, beside me, was looking around her, but still moving fast. βI have never before been down here,β she said, in the tone of one making conversation.
It is Book Quote Wednesday and the word is 'world'. In 'Song, Stone, Scale, Bone' by Juliet Kemp from Wiz Duos #2, Sir Cade is heading into the catacombs with a seemingly clueless client. #BookQW

Just finished "The Sheltering Flame", the first novella in Wiz Duos volume 3 from @wtpress.bsky.social and it was excellent, a very satisfying contemporary fantasy that reminded me of Peter Beagle or Charles
de Lint - three burnt out academics discover their fixer-upper house is a magical sanctuary.

Today's update features a real-life Welsh princess who eloped with a young king to help lead a guerilla army, died fighting the English, and may have also been a notable author.

Cover with blurbs 1: The cover of Wiz Duo book 3 with stories by Ruthanna Emrys and Andrew Knighton. The images are an old, wooden house seen against a mountainous background for Ruthanna's story; and a hiker walking towards the sunset in Andrew's. Beside it are quotes from other authors: βTwo gorgeously written novellas exploring the ways that our connections to the land and to each other can be broken but also mended, these stories tell of bargains and sacrifices, and ultimately of hopeful futures.β β Sarah Brooks βBeautiful and haunting.β β Anna Smith Spark βBeautiful in cadence, powerful in imagery, gentle in spirit, Andrew Knightonβs work takes your heartβs ghosts on dances of things lostβ β Danie Ware βA story that reminds us of the permanence of dreams and the determination of the human spirit. Youβll never walk Britainβs pathways the same again.β β Charlotte Bond
Ghosts linger amid the fields of England, waiting to be summoned by passing feet. As a walker faces the spectres of his own grief, he's drawn into a struggle between the paths connecting us & the boundaries that cut us apart, in Walking a Wounded Land.

Minority representation on TV causes outrage There has been widespread support for prominent Reform MP Sarah Pochin after she complained about the over-representation of minorities on television. Said one angry viewer, "She's right. Every time you turn on the telly there's another Reform MP being interviewed by Laura Kuenssberg." She added, "I respect their way of life and their strange customs, but Reform MPs comprise only 0.7 percent of the House of Commons. Yet Nigel Farage is on Question Time more than Fiona Bruce." "I'm not prejudiced. Some of my best friends are swivel-eyed loons, but enough is enough. There are too many people with angry red faces on television."
Yes, itβs a serious problem
