It’s always heartwarming when a good candidate beats an enormous sack of cash.

In the distance I hear the village nursery school kids singing β€˜Que Sera Sera’ and think, this has to be the soundtrack for the end of the world.

Lovely to bump into @rosieschaap.bsky.social today in No Alibis Books, Belfast, as we signed copies of our books (while accidentally colour-coordinating with the covers).

The President just fired our extraordinary Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden. As Chair of Senate Rules I worked closely w/her. She was dedicated to the Library and highly respected by Democratic AND Republican senators. This is an outrage and a big loss.

Thanks, Keith! All is well in Glenarm, but I’m nonetheless distraught by goings-on back in the US. Wouldn’t mind a long walk dressed as a curlew myself.

This Cultural Life - Maggie O'Farrell - BBC Sounds Author Maggie O'Farrell reveals the influences that have shaped her writing.

Loved this interview with Maggie O’Farrell, full of smart, useful stuff for writers (and writers who teach). Spoiler: her influences include Tove Jansson and David Hockney.

Who’s the meshuggener who woke up at 4:30 to make bagels for her students on the last day of the semester? Me. I am the meshuggener. But they deserve it.

I'm writing about the building in which I spent most of my childhood, and my research has led to a thrilling discovery:

BIG EDIE and LITTLE EDIE lived there in the 1930s.

Now I have to find out if we lived in the same apartment...

Exile On Main Street: Rosie Schaap the New Yorker who found happiness in an Antrim village | Free State with Joe Brolly and Dion Fanning

I so enjoyed having this conversation with the very smart Dion Fanning about THE SLOW ROAD NORTH, Roger Casement, Muhammad Ali, Ciaran Carson, grief, Glenarm, and more. Hope you'll give it a listen--and other episodes of Free State with Joe Brolly & Dion Fanning, too (it's a great podcast).
