Many of the points you mentioned can be addressed. You probably don’t need much knowledge to conclude that there is no real democracy in Turkey, even though it is a NATO member.

In my view, a union with growing imbalances. For example, when highly indebted countries pay the same yields as low-debt countries, or when a corrupt government from a relatively weak economy can completely block decision-making — makes the EU’s existence unsustainable in the long run.

Measuring democracy is more challenging, although actions aimed at shifting the balance of power or falsifying elections can still be noticed/assessed. for example, through a voting mechanism in which each member annually determines whether specific standards have been met.

I agree there is no easy answer. However, debt-to-GDP can be measured against predefined thresholds; the size of the economy or GDP per capita can also be taken into account.

The issue I see with the current approach is that it does not provide enough incentive for countries to be democratic or to ensure fiscal stability. The better a country performs, the more decision-making power it should have.
