I think I know what you mean about Dark Star. For the longest while I used to wince and zone out at the vocals, but that chorus with its accompaniment I now find beautiful, and also that first line "Dark star crashes / pouring its light into ashes..." Perhaps I should have stopped inhaling earlier!πŸ₯°

Yes, like everyone says, a killer (couple-killing?) closing couplet, beautifully set up by the first two stanzas, and my sonnet of the week for sure ... ❀️❀️

"...looking for sex in melting ice cubes..." is my favourite line of the day ❀️

"...liquid shapes / on blacked-out windows..." "...the traffic crawled. / You stretched out..." lovely rhythms and considered line-endings, and the whole very evocative πŸ™β€οΈπŸ‘

"He knows when you needed to have / your head down, when the word is / all sharp things" is brilliant, as various people have already said, and also the song and rhythms of it are just right πŸ‘πŸ‘

β€˜now you are shading / out of memory and belonging’ the slow fade of presence, not just of things but the people who kept them holy. A stunning elegy in domestic fragments. #KeepWriting #PoemsAbout #Starcrossed

Rebel angel

A flicker of movement
between Saturday night
streetlight shadows. You
bolted from cover, darted
across the Kilburn High Road –
a sudden starburst angel,
fugitive, blue-burning.

Even had you fallen,
flaming, down through all
the chiaroscuro deeps
of the firmament, you
could not have kindled in me
another fire such as this –
so fierce and so abiding.

I'm sorry for recycling a poem I offered not long ago, but as starcrossedness goes I couldn't think beyond what I'd written here (and I also had some other writing on the go). I look forward to reading everyone else's later! πŸ™β€οΈ

Lares and Penates

(with a nod to The Dry Salvages)

I don’t know that much about gods but I fancy these stately familiars have been your gods the copper coal cauldron that always wanted polishing the ProvenΓ§al salad bowl the great green glass sphere filled with fir cones the battered Bakelite sewing machine your father’s cribbage board the pair of silver candle-sticks (β€œone each when I’m gone”, you always insisted) the Delft and Jasperware in pristine array the storage jars in the pantry the sentinel prints of the fjords forbidding in the vespertine hall and now you are shading out of memory and belonging these icons and relics that have constituted your habitat your pantheon of heedful protectors likewise are losing their power and their lustre

What’s a god to do
once the ancient words of prayer
are all forgotten?

asteroid waltz

what was it we wanted? there was never a blueprint
no angels await in the atrium we dreamt the new sun
as a mirabelle plum hanging low from the dawn’s
crimson branches but the sun that we dreamt

was a dying sun we scratched out our youth
on its cold gold surface fitfully flaring like comets outgassing
we are old now we dance to a faltering asteroid waltz
we distantly circle and wane there never was an Architect

Thank you so much @hool415.bsky.social for the #MyGod #PromptCombo. Apologies I've missed a week or two lately. I have something on the stove but want to let it simmer. Meantime, though it's not very long ago that I posted this as a response to the #Architecture prompt, it does feel apposite...πŸ˜”πŸ™

Ah, can't read past the Associated Press firewall I'm afraid...and wouldn't want to try. You are entirely right that race is not in fact a thing, but I suspect that I strongly disagree with you on the question of what is or is not a lie

Thanks for this feedback. I am glad you picked out the bit about writing at the expense of others. A colleague raised a challenge to me on this recently. Why do not White people (why do not I) write honestly and openly about and from their(my!) Whiteness? The reason I reckon is probably shame ...😞
