The ABC has succumbed to the endless pressure to adopt the language of the right in its news bulletins. The greatest threat to the so called 'rules based order' is Trump and Netanyahu. I loathe the Iranian theocratic regime but killing its leader and citizens is not going to change anything.

Which shows that attacking the workers who are on the other end of the line is never acceptable. Any systemic problems are usually related to management decisions and poor planning and under funding.

Seeing Blair sitting up perkily on the 'Board of Peace' tends to contradict the notion that he is less to the right than Starmer.

A warning message for Labor Aus/Labour UK that becoming centre right is not going to persuade traditional Labor voters to vote for them however large their current majority. People feel let down by so many policies appealing to the rich and right wing.

Long time coming and a long way to go to address the damage - but so grateful to everyone who has ordered a copy of Where It All Went Wrong (including through your library!) I’m still so angry - and I hope it makes you angry too (so we can fix it) x

I was there in 1992 and then again in 2004. Would not go again with this lot in charge. My social media comments would be unacceptable to Trump.

There's more alien life here than there is 'out there' and Trump is one of the aliens along with almost the whole GOP.

The 'checks and balances' sure have failed in this 'democracy'.

Is Tim Wilson an β€˜inflation nutter’? Why the new shadow treasurer’s RBA comments are making waves Liberal MP claims the Reserve Bank has been soft on inflation. Labor says questioning the RBA’s dual mandate amounts to a β€˜plan for higher unemployment’

Tim Wilson again proving he is not 'moderate' as described, but radical right. The man with a loose connection to the truth and tendency to exaggerate (his franking credits campaign), is shadow Treasurer. He would be a disaster if he was in government.

Yes, Taylor is fossil fuels' man in Canberra, he's the Coal Candidate along with his front bench of fossils. Luckily they will be unlikely to be elected to form government until renewables are totally embedded into Australia's economy.

That's the trouble, nation states keep lowering the amount of tax they are 'due' to pay, because they 'work the system'.

With inflation being driven by Christmas holidays & data centres, the RBA didn’t need to raise the interest rate this week.

@mattgrudnoff.bsky.social & @ebonybennett.bsky.social discuss why the RBA is so cautious about cutting rates, yet so quick to hike them up. #auspol

US congressional report explores option of not delivering any Aukus nuclear submarines to Australia Report offers alternative of the US navy retaining boats and operating them out of Australian bases

@albomp.bsky.social, this is your opportunity to β€œrenegotiate” AUKUS and get us out of it.

It’s what Australians want, we want out of AUKUS.

In order to break the monopoly on tech that the extremist right wing US tech companies have, all countries should follow France's lead on this:

So many war criminals escaped to other countries such as Argentina. They also came to Australia where they hid in plain sight. Some were murdered by immigrant partisans who hunted them down and administered extra-judicial justice in the late 40s and 50s.

She clearly doesn't have a sense of irony. I remember the 50s when 'greasy wogs', 'Ities', 'Greeks', 'Balts' and Catholics weren't welcomed by the Anglo community in Aus. Then the Vietnamese were unwelcome, and so on. She is browner than the people she is moaning about and probably a Catholic.

He's a serial election chaser trying to find relevance in a society that is moving away from him. He destroyed Family First (not a bad thing), then crashed and burned as his 'Conservative' party failed, now he's looking for a sinecure with One Nation. What an opportunist.

Oh indeed. Let's believe and support the position of the Liberal Party. After all they are so successful at developing policy and presenting a unified and rational face to the electorate.

Exactly. The Yanks did this in 1953 when they ousted Mossadegh, who was democratically elected and replaced him with the Shah who had been rejected by the people. That led to the revolution of the Mullahs.

Well said. It is easier for the governments, to pay billions of $ to the US for imaginary subs than pay states to run excellent health services. Also it is easier to allow industry and the rich to pay less tax than raise more to pay for services.

Louise Adler sets out powerfully how the Adelaide Writers Week debacle was not a one-off.

But part of a dangerous anti-democratic pattern of efforts by the Israel lobby, the Murdoch media, and their political supporters to cancel Palestinian voices and silence dissent. #abc730 #auspol

China is now the leading clean energy powerhouse with the West falling behind.

The transition is inevitable; the key question is where and how fast it happens.

I look forward to discussing this in Davos next week at the World Economic Forum, facilitating a live-streamed session on electrostates.

Solidarity with Louise Adler and Randa Abdel-Fattah. We stand against this retrograde decision and with the countless authors withdrawing in support of Randa and her work.
