They'd never defined their relationship, never felt the need to put labels on things. Sam knew Bert like she knew the back of her own hand; knew her heart, her body, her soul. They weren't friends, weren't lovers. There wasn't, Sam was sure, a word that could define exactly what they were to each other, only that they belonged together. They were two sides of the same coin, two halves of the same whole. They were inevitable.
