We don’t know exactly when hedges were first planted but there's evidence of field boundaries since the Bronze Age. Some of these still remain as the banks below some of our most ancient hedges. The hedges that cross our landscape sometimes have a checkered past, their history is entwined with ours.

Before replacing fences, paving or decking, think about whether gaps, edges or rough areas could be left to help animals move through your garden. πŸ¦” Leave space under fences (hedgehogs just need a 13cm Γ— 13cm gap) or allow a strip of long grass to help wildlife travel, feed and shelter.

The population of #snowleopards is declining every year. Their mountain habitat is shrinking due to illegal mining and poaching, forcing them to live closer to humans. But our team has secured Mongolia's first nature reserve, giving the cats a fighting chance πŸ‘‡β„οΈ

Here are some fun facts to show off to your friends later...

🐸 40% of the worlds plants and animals depend on wetlands.
🌱Every year 200 new species are discovered in freshwater wetlands.
🌊Coastal wetlands like mangroves are among the most biologically diverse places on earth.

They provide homes for many endangered species, offer a lifeline for freshwater species and act as vital β€˜service stations’ for millions of migratory birds to rest and refuel. Many endemic species are found only in specific wetland areas.

Today we're celebrating #WorldWetlandsDay with our friends at WWTπŸŒΎπŸ’§As much as we need air to breathe, we need water to live. The conservation of our wetlands is essential to life on Earth.

Did you know #wetlands are one of the world’s most biodiverse habitats?

Big win for Scotland’s nature! The Natural Environment Bill passed by MSPs will bring in legally binding targets to restore wildlife and habitats. Huge thanks to LINK’s members and supporters who helped make this happen! Let’s keep pushing for strong action and funding to restore Scotland’s nature.
