I’m BBC staff covering news in Wales but I sort of think of The Briefing Room as “In Our Time” but for current affairs. It’s old school Reithian stuff to get a great panel together to give their perspectives with a good chair presenter.

Ah I can’t get the full etymology without logging in to work which I’m not going to do right now but on the surface the OED says “fell” is of Norse origin 🤔 I guess maybe “fjall”. I’ll look tomorrow.

I was listening to Loose Ends on BBC Radio 4 earlier - from the Kendal Mountain Festival - and they were talking about “fells” and fell running. It got me wondering if “fell” comes from brythonic (aka “Welsh”) moel/foel via Cumbric. @garicgymro.bsky.social may know. I’ll look it up in the OED.

It’s been very choppy or at times dead over the last week. One advantage of the Elad is I can do JS8 at the same time as FT8 RX on two bands at a time as it’s multi channel. Tx on one at any given moment of course!

Think of all those lovely minerals and vitamins! I’m not too sure of your water issues locally. I’m fairly trusting of west Wales. I think you have a reactor around there but people of our generation are all bomb test veterans in a way (nuclear isotopes in our teeth apparently!)

I tried and failed to set it up with my Elad FDM after Dale highlighted it. Maybe I should try again. I thought it was a voice only mode and missed the other goodies. I’m still 5w QRP so maybe that’s an issue. I think JS8Call should be more popular too.

Way better fresh but yes it can need a pinch because they wash it so much for the canned stuff. Bravo for trying! Probably some good stuff to be harvested in East Lothian!
