A dense, urban Canada? It’s possible A specific, provocative proposal for how Toronto might evolve offers good ideas

From: @alexbozikovic.bsky.social: "Our building codes require every apartment to have two separate... stairs. If you eliminate that rule... everything changes. Buildings become... less bulky. Apartments gain light and fresh air in every room. This means a dramatic improvement in quality of life."

3,000 fewer students in the SLC School District this year compared to 2020, with a 5% drop from 2024 fall enrollment to 2025 fall enrollment.

Just completely glaze over and oblivious to everything, including stop signs, red lights, and other cars. Watched a car last week run through a 4 way stop, looking straight ahead, and not even slow down. Fortunately I stopped and hadn’t started pedaling yet.

Not specific. I think frequency is just as important. The 209, 213, and 220 routes going N-S are good routes with poor frequency and the 21 has 15 minute weekday frequencies. I think for the money, increasing frequencies on those is the best way to expand transit.

The density of the business district is about 30 dwellings per acre.

1-4 on fourth down, two turnovers, 11 penalties. Not going to win with those numbers.

So few cars during rush hour. The monthly bike to work day is an under appreciated way to engage the mayor and other city officials.

I loved seeing how many older people were out with friends at 10 pm in Nice last year. Granted, that city is insanely uncomfortable during summer afternoon, so it’s way more comfortable going out later. Downside: no coffee anywhere before 8 am.

It’s not a license issue. It is likely just due to not enough revenue to justify staying open later. It’s one of the most notable differences here vs a lot of Europe.

Rice-Eccles Stadium has a bunch of puddles all over the field right now as sheets of rain pour down. Nobody has entered the field all night. The game is still not on delay ... but we're right on the edge of that happening.

I’d guess if it’s true, there will be an answer in the next 3-4 months. Funding for a new arena will likely have to be approved by the legislature.

This is today’s media. Misleading headlines to grab attention without regard for how the casual reader’s thoughts will form how they interpret the article. In this case, the photo will be interpreted by some (many?) to reflect current conditions in Portland. Selective influence from the media

An unusual 'village' aims to help people leave long-term homelessness for good Chronic homelessness is at a record high, but there's a shortage of housing, rehab and mental health treatment. One ambitious program in Utah is finding a way to offer all that plus jobs.

Built on city owned land that required environmental remediation before construction could start, it was a complicated public/non profit partnership that will make a difference in SLC. www.npr.org/2025/10/06/n...
