Epstein files cast pall among US faculty and students: ‘I just feel a deep disappointment’ Ties to the disgraced financier run deep through the academic world, documents released by the DoJ show

More accounts of STEM professors discussing how fuckable they think their female students and mentees are in emails with Epstein. Comments on these women's looks come up in emails about their pursuit of professional and academic opportunities.

STEM is hostile to women on so many levels.

#dust can cost big money....

This example of a flight diversion reminded me of a study (see @eos.org article) where they looked at the the frequency of presence airborne dust around some major airports.

Major dust cloud travelling from NW Africa to northern South America. This is a good example of intercontinental (natural) pollution transport.
In addition to blocking sunlight, dust carries nutrients and pathogens and impacting ecosystems by deposition along the way.

The intense #SaharanDust plume over the North Atlantic is predicted to reach western Europe in the coming days in the #CopernicusAtmosphere forecast. These episodes are not uncommon at this time of the year, particularly impacting air quality and visibility in Canary Islands and Madeira.

🛰️After yesterday's #highlatidudedust activity in central Patagonia, a dust cloud traveled about 700km NE. Not a great distance as far as pollution advection, but it is in a direction that you do not see it that often.

In addition there is dust activity in ElPaso/Ciudad Juarez area, no too obvious in images but it is sort of visible through the cirrus.

2 distinctive #highlatitudedust clouds in SW Atlantic today.

One from dry lake Colhue Huapi, dust can be seen very well from a webcam in Comodoro Rivadavia.

The second dust cloud (yellow ) is from earlier dust activity from mudflats along the shore of Deseado river (visible in earlier image)

The #dust we miss

Late afternoon with an almost totally cloudy Patagonia yesterday.

But in between clouds, there was significant #highlatitudedust activity.
However, there are no sensors there, no satellite information (mostly cloudy) ,so we do not know how long or how much this event was.

Actually I misidentified the #highlatitudedust source. I am not sure that the sources in the mud-flat were active, but certainly the dry Laguna Blanca was emitting a lot of dust (arrow) and likely it is the source of most of the haze.

Few hours later in the early morning GOES image, there is haze well into the sub-Antarctic waters. The MODIS-Terra overpass (1 hour later) detects the haze as aerosol in moderate quantities (for this region). Eventually it will deposit over the ocean and snow.
