The "safest" option for an internet-connected TV is to use a PC as your streaming box. It's much easier to control and block data going into and out of your computer, even on Windows.

But smart TVs give you zero options to control how they use your network.

I say "safer" even though consoles still collect data, but they don't do it as obtrusively or insistently because selling data is not Microsoft, Nintendo or Sony's main source of revenue.

They also continue to receive regular security updates. Your smart TV stops getting those in short order.

Never connect your TV to the internet. Never.
