Opinion | Another Tale of Climate Change Bias The government should stop funding the National Academies’ climate studies until they shed the political conformity.

Koonin spending an entire WSJ column criticizing @nationalacademies.org’s report for not being a review of his DOE climate contrarian report when (1) to my knowledge, the Academies have never reviewed a gov’t report without being asked (though such an independent review, or comparable, is necessary…

As we enter the second week of the Republican shutdown of the government, we shouldn't be cowed by Trump's threats to use the shutdown as an excuse to dismantle parts of the government he dislikes. He's shown that he needs no excuse to do that. He's been doing it all along, legal or not, and

This video of Chicagoans intervening to save a man from being abducted off the streets by ICE is making the rounds on Instagram.

Make no mistake that citizens will also get wrapped up in this, as they have been.

Surreal moment for America. Needless to say, if the normal police ever pulled something like this β€” pulling every single person out of an apartment building and handcuffing them to run warrant checks β€” they would be sued into oblivion.

Yet ICE is going to get away with it entirely.

A great primate has left our habitat. Jane Goodall -hero of our biosphere. A peak experience was reading from Earth in Human Hands for her and her board. She was kind, humble, great hugger, inspiring, brilliant. Let’s try to live her vision of a world where we care properly for all living creatures.

With Trump's "enemy within" language, they are about a month away from just being able to do whatever they want and skip the whole DEI/foreign invaders/whatever talking points.

Fascinating line in new HΓΌlse & Ridgwell paper about how our gigantic pulse of CO2 into the atmosphere--after tens of thousands of years of warming--could kick off an overcorrection of organic carbon burial in the oceans and hasten the descent into an ice age www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

Just wait until the termination shock in stratification after discontinuing SRM for a century (I wonder to what extent this happens in abrupt 2x/4xCO2 vs. transient runs)

This is a good intro but the popular notion that diatomics can’t be good greenhouse gases applies to a molecule in isolation, not at high enough pressures where collisions can absorb radiation and excite into higher rotation states. H2 is the most important greenhouse gas in the whole Universe.

12/ this isn’t to say climate science doesn’t get things wrong. That is often a feature of cutting edge research, and the same happens in every other field. But there’s no systematic problem and the things that are elevated to consensus/high confidence territory just don’t have a bad track record.

23.09.2025 23:35 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

11/ the appeal to talking points was very clear in the now-disbanded DOE group, who work backwards to create doubt by throwing mud all over the place, but ultimately get very little correct and explain/predict nothing of substance to shake the foundations of modern climate dynamics.

23.09.2025 23:23 β€” πŸ‘ 4    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

10/ the basic aspects of what sets planetary temperature is now on extremely sturdy ground, and no wishful thinking or out-of-touch quotes by a random person saying Manhattan should have been underwater is going to change that. But Trump has no interest in the best science, just talking points.

23.09.2025 23:21 β€” πŸ‘ 7    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

9/ these represent real physical science predictions, unlike the often-quoted one liners and vague, unpublished stuff from activist types, like β€œwe’re all doomed in 10 years.” It’s bad communication but rather beside the point. The climate community has done a trendline job.

23.09.2025 23:19 β€” πŸ‘ 6    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

8/ In contrast to Trump’s claim, there never was any serious concern of β€œglobal cooling” this century (even if some papers discussed this, but many decades later than he said due to aerosol emissions climbing before the warming signal was firmly established).

23.09.2025 23:17 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

7/ these predictions eventually cut into other territories, including intense extreme rainfall, loss of Arctic sea ice, poleward shift of the storm tracks, shift in altitude of high cloud tops coinciding with where radiative cooling is efficient, sea level rise, etc.
