3/3 Despite this, fossil fuel use continues to rise and is projected to reach an all time high.

2/3 2.6°C would likely trigger major tipping points that would cause the collapse of key Atlantic Ocean circulation, loss of coral reefs, long-term deterioration of ice sheets & the conversion of the Amazon rainforest to a savannah, a place where more than 30 million people live.

1/3 In 1995, the first COP gathering was held in Berlin. Thirty years later we are on track to reach 2.6°C.

3/3 In an interview with Reuters, Indigenous leader Chief Raoni said that many Indigenous communities are frustrated with ongoing industrial and development projects in the forest. He called on Brazil to empower native peoples in Amazon preservation efforts.

2/3 “We can’t eat money. We want our lands free from agribusiness, oil exploration, illegal miners and illegal loggers" said Gilmar, an Indigenous leader from the Tupinamba community.

1/3 Hundreds of people stormed through security lines at the COP30 climate talks in Belém, Brazil, reflecting deep-rooted anger at the sidelining of Indigenous groups from talks that directly affect their lands and livelihoods.

Green Party leader Zack Polanski said that approving Rosebank “would make a mockery of the UK’s climate promises” and be a “betrayal” of young people.

3/4 Its minimal gas reserves have the potential to cut our gas import dependency by, on average, just 1% a year (under the most favourable conditions and if no gas is exported).

2/4 This enormous oil field would produce more CO2 than the annual emissions of the 700 million people living in the world’s poorest countries produce in a year.

It won’t lower bills and would do almost nothing to boost energy security in the UK, as most of it is oil destined for export.

Zack Polanski joins 250 orgs calling on Keir Starmer to Reject Rosebank Over 250 organisations - including RSPB, Amnesty International UK and Friends of the Earth Scotland - have warned the Prime Minister against caving in to Big Oil.

In the parish of St. Elizabeth there's no infrastructure that can withstand a category 5 hurricane. Some people have only just restored their homes destroyed by the last one.
