US Treasuries sell off and why it's more worrying than a stock crash The collapse in US government bond prices could be indicative of something more serious in the financial system's plumbing.

They know what the rates and best options are right now. I'm not telling anyone to take their advice blindly, but sitting on your hands right now and hoping for a "normal market and financial pattern" is incredibly dangerous.

With a recession or depression looming on the horizon, the normal safe investment haven of treasuries looking untrustworthy, and the guy driving the show operating with an outdated instruction manual and the temperament of a toddler, things are set up on a foundation of toothpicks.

And it looks like that is coming again.

But the scariest impact seems to be playing out in the Treasury markets. Bonds, papers, and other "safe" investments, are showing scary signs of instability. The bond market, which historically always sees growth, had negative growth for the first time in forever just a couple of years ago.

Interest rates are lower than they were 12 to 18 months ago, but are still high as the fed is trying to deal with inflation. This has impacts in people's spending, which slows economic growth, and the market.

This is playing out not just in the stock markets, which plummeted for almost a week straight until he pulled back on his tariffs today, but in other aspects of the financial world too.

This creates instability, but a strong national economy could weather this easily and come out stronger. But, the world has changed since the 1930s, 40s, and 50s. The economy is much more global than it was then, and this instability hurts every single layer of our financial system.

Then, we brought in a president that operates the economic levers like a game of Whack-a-Mole instead of Animal Crossing.

Trump is operating under the old Nationalistic, Protectionist, Fascist textbook on how to exert power over the economy and world through tariffs and strong arms.

Most of the issue in the market right now are artificial. In 2024, we were dealing with an economy that was still struggling to sort through supply chain issues and inflation brought on by the after-effects of COVID and the rapid onset of climate change.

Normally, economists and predictors like Goldman-Sachs, J.P. Morgan, and others would be able to see trends and correlate that with historically similar market events to give a fairly reasonable hypothesis on where things are going in the near future financially.

So, I obviously don't work in finance anymore, but I still get a lot of chatter and information from people and other sources still inside that machine. And pretty much everyone I talk to is saying this:

Things are wildly unpredictable right now.

And we will. We have to. It is fight or give in to extinction at this point.

And because of my love for those I am closest to, and my child's future, I choose to fight.

I know this is only a small drop in that fight, but it is a fight we all must continue. We all will continue. Thank you everyone.

But my tears were not of sadness. They were of hope and safety. At a time when so many of us are, when I am feeling defeated, alone, isolated and wanting to surrender, it was the best kind of therapy to be there yelling, disrupting, and making known that we are not giving up. We can do better.

But there were well over a thousand people stretching blocks down multiple streets from City Hall in Oldtown to the Tesla dealership. I hid tears from my child to not alarm them as they were already anxious by the crowd and noise. This was their first protest of age to remember after all.

And I know my impact and danger is lesser than others. But when it comes to fighting fascists, we all most be united.

As we turned onto Colorado Boulevard, and drove past the throng of people multiple rows deep holding signs and making noise today, I was overwhelmed. I did not expect such turnout.

This is so needed, as the fascists win when people surrender to fear and angst. It is their greatest weapon. And my fear for myself, my close friends, my spouse, my child and the future is great.

It is easy to shut down and close off the negative emotions from what is happening right now, so seeing thousands of people are willing to public shout, honk, and yell at the world for you and those you care about's safety allows these boxed up emotions to surface and be consciously processed.

In a time when I, and so many others are utterly depressed, anxious, and tired by the onslaught of safety nets society is supposed to be providing and expanding for us and those we care about, but is instead eroding them at an exponential pace at the hands of fascists, these events are so important.

Was quite emotionally cathartic to be in a crowd of well over a thousand protesting the continuing downward spiral of Democracy and Civil Rights in the United States today.
