I couldn't make it to a yarn store for Local Yarn Store Day, but I did knit at the games when I wasn't scorekeeping!

On a day that started with errands followed by a teen baseball double header, I managed to spend a few minutes at @bookwarehouse.bsky.social on Main for Indie Bookstore Day, and it was glorious. I scored a mystery book and I'm excited to read it! #cibd2025

Please help us spread the word to the government and local MPs by explaining how valuable your local bookstore or publishing house is. A tariff on incoming books from the U.S. would be detrimental to the entire Canadian Book Industry, which is an important cultural and community-building ecosystem.

The majority of books sold in Canadian bookstores, including books by Canadian authors, are published by multinational publishers whose Canadian divisions rely on U.S. printers and warehouses for distribution.

The proposed 25% tariff would have devastating consequences for Canadian readers, our businesses, and our cultural landscape.⁠

Like most other Canadian independent bookstores, we are extremely concerned that the Canadian Government has included books in a counter-tariff against the US. This would cripple the industry here in Canada and do minor damage to the U.S....

Bookstores across Canada are raising their voices to ask the federal government to exempt books from counter-tariffs due to take effect on April 2.
