yeah big fan of spelunky... i think Vagante is another example of a game that is really like "what if rogue but 2d platformer" but in a more literal translation with fantasy trappings and spellbooks etc. more 2010s roguelikes have this kind of stripped down design though - Downwell comes to mind.
