The median mortgage payment is 2.2k , if you factor in average in average home insurance and taxes that's 2.8k. Say 3k. Times 8 years that's 288k. No way maintenence and furnishings are adding 700k.

The median home price now is 435k. Meanwhile they say a kid costs 3 million... you still have 2.6 million to account for.

3 million is $166k per year over 18 years or $142k over 21. How the heeck could you spend that with hand me downs and one car? And that's per kid... you're telling me I should be spending 600kish a year on my kids. It's ridiculous.
