Welp given what I know of LSE finances I guess if anyone is looking to hire I may soon be in the need of employment! Fuck could I somehow link what I do to AI maybe?

Revised evolutionary relationships within Brachycera and the early origin of bicoid in flies Mulhair et al. uncover a functional bicoid in non-cyclorrhaphan flies, pushing the gene's origin back by ∼20 million years. Reassessing the Diptera phylogeny using the largest dataset to date permits ...

Latest work out today in @currentbiology.bsky.social

We find the fly development gene bicoid is much older than previously thought (~20 million yrs older!) πŸͺ°πŸ§¬

To pinpoint its origins we tackled the Diptera phylogeny, providing some resolution (many open questions remain).

This is the kind of thing you would do if you had no idea how to achieve economic growth. It's a stunningly stupid move but only one of many that the government has been making over the last 10 months or so. All those years in opposition and they have no idea what to do while in office. Shameful

402 signatures, over 100 a day.

My goal of 500 by Monday is within our sights.

Are you a supportive mum, dad, aunt, uncle, sibling, grandparent, extended family member, friend, neighbour, work colleague of a trans person?

Take a look at the Transparent Pledge and help Transparent Action grow.

It really is just simple geometry.

You cannot build a functional city if everyone brings a 2-ton living room on wheels with them.

What Kenan Malik has failed to do here is distinguish between mundane bigotry (the "visceral") and programmatic racism. The language of "invasion" and "white decline" does not arise organically from working class anxiety or xenophobia but is imposed from above.

Jumping spiders can recognise one another. This ability to learn, remember and represent images is quite surprising for such a tiny-brained animal!

Compare and contrast the Government language.

Β£3,750 EV grant on a Β£35k car: β€˜helping families’.

Cycle to Work: β€˜subsidising leisure’.

And yet cycling delivers TEN TIMES the impact of electric cars for reaching net zero. It’s almost like narrative, not data, is driving policy.

What progressives won’t say about abortion The sanitised narrative ignores ethical truths

Kathleen Stock has written an article against "abortion permissiveness". She claims abortion requires "justification" saying the state should limit "unacceptable decision-making" by women about their own bodies.

This is who anti-trans activists proclaim as the feminist thought leaders of our time.

In Regulation Nation Nobody thinks much about bureaucracy anymore. But in the middle of the twentieth century, particularly in the late Sixties and early Seventies, the word was everywhere. It dominated works of sociology...

This is the β€œgender-critical” transphobes giving up on their bio-determinism & saying it is gender (ie. The socially & culturally determined performative) that defines a woman.

By producing this β€œguidance”, organised transphobia has effectively conceded defeat in its β€œsex vs gender” war.

Apart from anything else, this is such a wholehearted capitulation to patriarchy, it should make any real feminist despair.

Being female is to be marked as a permanent at-risk class, requiring state protection against even the appearance of maleness.

Rather than, y'know, against real violence.

Trans-exclusionary and β€œgender critical” takes are extremely prevalent in the British media. So I wrote this with the assumption that many readers might not realise that such views are seen as fringe and extreme by the vast majority of feminists outside the UK (and by many within the UK too).

"...such if a trans man, who is female but is perceived as a man..."

Is it even possible for anyone in the British press to do actual journalism and, you know, seek to understand the issues, what's at stake, and how it affects real people, and not simply repeat transphobic talking points? ffs.
