I saw a post yesterday about many young people believing a person can write well even if they don't enjoy reading. This baffles me. Why you would want to be a writer if you dislike reading? Today, I saw a quote by a man who was an amazing writer.

This is my weekend book haul. It’s filled with Jim Lee’s full color illustrations as well as inks and pencils. There are also write-ups about Lee and of each drawing. It talks about his career at WildStorm and DC Comics up to the New 52. #jimlee #dccomics #dcu #superman #batman

These are the books I finished reading in Oct 2025. I seemed to have a theme going since three of the books displayed red prominently on the cover and one of those even included the word red.

I went book shopping on Saturday and then my wife found the Terry Goodkind novels on Sunday. Here is the book haul. Have you read any? Was it good?

Finished The Silence of the Lambs today. Excellent book. I am glad that the movie held so close to Thomas Harris’s original story.

Probably read Stephen Lawhead’s Taliesin next. In Jan 2026 the Daily Wire+ releases a series based on the Pendragon Cycle.

When I checked the mail, a big red wasp apparently landed on me without me noticing. I put my arm down and he popped me on the inside of the elbow. That’s the first time I have been stung in probably 30 years. Oh well, my fault for not paying better attention.

Sadly, that line is slightly different in the book. I am only about 25 pages in, but for the most part, the movie seems to have held close to Harris’s original story. The personalities of Starling and Lecter are both coming through strongly in the dialog. (2/2)

The book I received in the mail yesterday was The Silence of the Lambs (1988) by Thomas Harris, book 2 of the Hannibal Lecter series. I started reading it before bed last night. And why not? How else am I supposed to dream of fava beans and a nice chianti? (1/ 2)

Also today, I received the thriller novel I was expecting that I mentioned in yesterday’s post. Tomorrow I will post which book that was. Feel free to list your guesses in the comments if you like. Hint in yesterday’s post. (3/3)

The story is similar to Village of the Damned, Island of the Damned, and Children of the Damned. In fact, Stine says they were his inspiration. He said that he wrote this book for the children who read Goosebumps and Fear Street and had now grown up.(2/3)

Today, I finished reading Red Rain (2012) by R.L. Stein. He is best known for his widely popular children’s spooky series Goosebumps, but Red Rain is definitely written for adults. And I would like to find more of his adult horror. (1/3)

Fun w/lots of puzzles. However it’s fiction & not to be taken as history.

Tomorrow I should receive another thriller. Like above, this was made into a movie. Also the 2nd book in a series. The main character was inspired by a surgeon who went to prison. Any guesses? (2/2)

I finished reading this oldie but goodie today. It came out in 2003, so it as about time. This is the 2nd book of Dan Brown’s hero Robert Langdon, and it was made into a movie in 2006 starring Tom Hanks.(1/ 2)

I watched Vicious (2025) on Paramount+. Rotten Tomatoes gives it a score of only 34%. That seems a bit harsh to me. The creepy factor was definitely high. There are some difficult-to-watch scenes, but it is a horror movie. They aren’t meant to offer warm and fuzzies.

It's been out since Aug, but I finally bought The End of the World as We Know It. My copy was the last on the store’s shelf. Collects nearly 800 pages of stories set in the universe of Stephen King’s The Stand. What is your Friday read? #Reading #readingcommunity

Tonight, I will start reading HOUSE OF LEAVES by Mark Z. Danielewski & FIRST BLOOD by David Morrell. HoL is a horror novel that I have meant to read for several years. FB is, of course, the first RAMBO story. Morrell’s book for writers is great, so I'll try his fiction.

I bought THE POWER OF MYTH by Joseph Campbell a few days ago. This book and Campbell’s THE HERO WITH A THOUSAND FACES should be in every writer’s library, in my opinion.

I've always thought it was a mistake for a writer to use big words just to sound smart. The opposite happens. Maybe I heard it from Camus. πŸ˜‰

This isn’t an ad. Not an affiliate. Just wanted to show you how I protect my books. It won’t raise the value but will help lessen further damage. I use mylar (a kind of plastic) book sleeves. Just slip the cover into the sleeve and fold it to the height.

Awesome! I have wanted to read it for years, but always had a huge TBR list. The time, it just seemed to catch my attention. It’s a great story all things being equal, but in recent years, it is even more timely IMO.
