Greetings from Georgia! Mostly birds and by mostly I mean all. Fan of Johnny Cash and the planet Saturn. Physics professor, dad, cat guy. Ex pastor but not angry about it.
Thank you! The hawk did stay long in the yard. I think I annoyed her
13.12.2025 03:00 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I looked! But I didnβt see anything. And when she flew into the sweetgum tree she had nothing with her but her attitude
13.12.2025 01:23 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Yes indeed. She wasnβt very bothered by our pulling up and piling out of the car

12.12.2025 23:45 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Red shouldered hawk perched on a standalone bird feeder, facing the camera. Her head is turned 180 degrees so you see her brown back flecked in white, her tail, and her keen light brown eyes boring holes through the camera. The soft late-day light is from the right and the background is sky with high wispy clouds.
Later on she flew up onto our neighborβs bird feeder and rotated her head and gave me a nice hard death stare

12.12.2025 23:27 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Juvenile red shouldered hawk on the ground. Her body faces right but her head is turned to the left, just past the direction of the camera. She has a light breast switch brown streaks, dark wings flecked in white, a brown head, light brown eyes, and a yellow cere (the uppermost part of her beak). The ground is short green and brown grass and scattered leaves.
BIRD REPORT just got home from the grocery store and junior murder bird was waiting for us right there in the front yard #birds
This has been your Friday evening BIRD REPORT
Yes! Not really hidden in the original sense of the bird of the day theme, but hidden nonetheless

12.12.2025 14:13 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0For me the whole thing is about scale. As Sibley says, the great blue is βour largest heron.β And yet the bird nearly vanishes

12.12.2025 13:29 β π 6 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Great blue heron, facing right, absolutely dwarfed by the Lake Blackshear Dam. The structure of the dam dominates the scene and torrents of water rush over the spillway, crashing into the tailwater. If you look close, down and to the left, you can see the tiny but unmistakable form of a great blue heron looking up at the dam.

11.12.2025 16:46 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Carolina chickadee, my house, Dekalb County Ga 12/9/25
11.12.2025 13:45 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Profile shot of a Carolina chickadee, facing right. You can see only the upper half of the bird in the square frame, and the light comes from the left. This means that her nape and back and shoulders are fully lit and you can see details of her contour (body) feathers in those places. Her breast and throat are in shadow, but they still stand out against the soft gray-brown background. She has a black throat, a black cap, a bright white cheek, buffy flanks, and light gray wings. The sun reflects in her bright brown eye and she holds a sunflower seed in her short beak.

10.12.2025 14:40 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0White breasted nuthatch, my house, Dekalb County Ga 12/9/25
10.12.2025 14:36 β π 8 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0White breasted nuthatch attached to a feeder, head down, facing left. Her tail points exactly upwards and her long axis is vertical and her head is held at a 90 degree angle to her body, along the horizontal. True to her name, she has a white breast. She also has a white throat and mostly white face with a handsome steel blue crown stripe running all the way down her nape. Her wings are gray blue and she has a very short squat tail pointing straight up. She holds a black oil sunflower seed in her long sharp beak. The background is composed of blurry grays and greens.
