The legions of darkness in my epic fantasy aren't living creatures, but the reanimated dead, known as necromes.

They're zombies, but with extra fangs and claws - and if their blood mingles with yours (as might happen in battle) you die and become one of them.

They're controlled by blood magic.

Buckle up! In my backburner WIP (bc it needs way more effort than I can put in it at the moment) I have Aurin. Aurin is a Cannaghast, which is an undead creature whose soul is separate from the reincarnated form. In this universe, necromancy can have 4 outcomes. [1/4]

My vampires aren't undead, but my demons are. Spawned from the Abyss, the physical manifestation of death, they have alarun, a tar-like, blood-esque substance, flowing through their veins, and only die when the Abyss absorbs them back.

And we also have ghosts and zombies. Necromancy ftw!

Aberrations (not a pejorative term, the process of making em is called aberrating) are sort of a Frankenstein’s monster deal varying in complexity from appliances up to entire people. Potent preservatives and prosthetics make them akin to cyborgs with an added touch of morbid sentimentality.

A ghost does make an appearance in HermitageWIP, and their history has parallels with the lives of the haunted.

The dead do appear in other stories, but rarely as a physical embodiment.

My boy Cerdei is a lantern spirit, ie a restless spirit that died traumatically and will never receive a restful burial due to Circumstances. He’s acerbic, has beef with the local Fox God, and is coming soon to LAMBENT, my winter release.

I don't have a specific insectoid character to talk about, but the Kureh-sha from Pierce the Sky are a race of insectoid aliens that function as a hivemind, so they wouldn't really see themselves as individuals anyway. My answer was too long for bsky so here's what I wrote on Threads.

The kytinn are the insectoid species of Sakathiz, a smaller realm conquered by Outworld. Their hive mind fascinates scholars: kytinn rejoice in each other's joys, suffer each other's pains, and for that, are a truly united people.
