A Genealogy of the Gentleman, by Mary Beth Harris. Cover shows an 18th-century engraving of a woman in magnificent dress looking unimpressed as a gentleman bows to kiss her hand; a male servant lingers in the background.

One of the truly great pleasures of my existence is when a former student writes a brilliant book, and I get to hold it in my hot little hands. Congratulations to Mary Beth Harris on the publication of A Genealogy of the Gentleman, now out with UDel. #c18

The long-awaited news from the Chicago Manual of Style: Place of publication will no longer be used in citations as of the 18th edition (with rare exceptions for clarity).

Meet the woman who helped libraries across the U.S. 'surf the internet' Jean Armour Polly was inducted into the Internet Hall of Fame in 2019 for evangelizing computers in public libraries, the precursor to the internet being offered as a core service in those spaces.

The Rise of the Faculty Budget Activists They have proposals to stave off cuts. Is anyone listening?

Everyone working in higher education--faculty, staff and administrators--could really use a crash course in higher ed finance. Seeing the light bulbs turn on when I teach my more in-depth version is awesome.

Digital archives have ongoing costs in perpetuity. You can't fund a "digital archive" with a one-time grant. YOU CAN'T FUND A DIGITAL ARCHIVE WITH A ONE-TIME GRANT

Title: Methods of defending your local library from government cuts.

1. Comminity Support: families stand round the licrary with placards
2. Fortifications: The library now has crenellations, a high wall and guards with spears.
3. Camouflage: the library has been painted with a camouflage pattern.
4. Black magic: the library has been painted with a huge pentagram , a sorceror casts a spell from an altar.
5. Time Travel: weird machinery is attached to the library, it is in a prehistoric jungle, a dinosaur walks past.
6. Disguise: the library has been dressed to look like a vape shop
7. Attack!: the library has tank tracks and large mechanical arms, it speeds forth, a librarian urges it on from a hatch at the top.

Stanford CRAFT Resources for teaching about artificial intelligence provided by the Stanford Graduate School of Education

CRAFT: AI Literacy Resources is a growing set of engaging materials coming out of Stanford University GSE. Aimed at K-12 but useful in #highered--we do need to work together more! I like the interactive "explorables." Glad these are open-licensed too.

What's the most important thing LIS students should learn about managing libraries today? <3<3 Readings/syllabi too

One lesson about the disabling systems attack on the British Library that I hope more people take away:

Library & archives systems infrastructure is generally invisible and incredibly important. We need resources & people to manage it all. Help us to advocate for funding.
