4) Barcelona Wine Week, Emoción Dos Viños, Vinos Off The Record, Galicia Wine Taste, Liquid Vins and Innoble (to name a few) are all events where you can taste and feel the energy and dynamism.

3) Spain remains great for affordable everyday wines that provide a lot of uncomplicated enjoyment with food. More interesting wines (small producers, local varieties) have a presence if you know where to look. It’s an exciting time and that’s reflected in the many events happening across the year.

2) In smaller towns and cities wine lists can often be dull and predictable with too many uninteresting wines from the three Rs (Rioja, Ribera, Rueda). But there are gems everywhere if you know where to go and/or do the research. Spanish Wine Lover, for example, has a useful online resource.

1) Retail online and from specialist wine shops is as good as it gets right now. And increasingly the possibility of buying direct from producers. Wines from smaller producers are much more readily accessible. For restaurants and bars, it depends on where you are.
