Mark Zuckerberg is Out of Ideas | TechPolicy.Press Dave Karpf reflects on Zuckerberg's mini-manifesto on β€œPersonal Superintelligence" and what it says about the vision for the company.

Earlier this week, Mark Zuckerberg posted a new online mini-manifesto, titled β€œPersonal Superintelligence,” setting the direction for Meta’s AI program. The one strong prediction we can make right now is that the future of AI will be a gigantic mess, with huge social costs, writes Dave Karpf.

Stop Pretending Chatbots Have Feelings: Media's Dangerous AI Anthropomorphism Problem When AI causes harm, headlines blame the bot instead of the billion-dollar companies that built them. This anthropomorphic coverage is tech journalism at its worst.

Today's newsletter: The Wall Street Journal says ChatGPT had a "stunning moment of self reflection." NBC says Grok "issued an apology." This lazy language isn't just bad writing β€” it's helping tech companies dodge responsibility for real harm. www.readtpa.com/p/stop-prete...

On how A.I. can transform media consumption:
Reading the A.I. summary β€” I think it can be useful. I think it has a powerfully inoculating effect. Like, I think long-form, lots-of-episodes TV is a waste of time. But it’s very tempting, right? You watch an episode and you’re like, β€œOh, geez, I really want to know what happens here.”
And so I discovered a couple of years ago, obviously, that the solution is you immediately go to Wikipedia and read the entire summary of the season, and then you’re cured of the desire to watch any more episodes. So there is a therapeutic benefit to A.I. summaries.

Bragg Soldiers Who Cheered Trump's Political Attacks While in Uniform Were Checked for Allegiance, Appearance As Trump viciously attacked his perceived political foes, he whipped up boos from the gathered troops directed at California leaders, including Gov. Gavin Newsom.

Really important story - army officials asked soldiers to identify themselves if they don't agree with Trump's politics that way he'd get only supportive soldiers in uniform during his political rally on base. Heavier soldiers were also barred from participating.

One man says law enforcement accused him of being in Tren de Aragua because of his tattoo.

New: Two months ago, a cadre of Texas and federal authorities crashed what they later described as a Tren de Aragua gathering in Hays County and detained 47 people, including kids.

Since, the authorities involved in the raid have not said much.

The Grok "white genocide" thing today is another example of "AI" in practice just being a way to place a facade of "intelligence" and rationality over something you thought/wanted to do already. Basically just functioning as an extremely expensive software mirror.
