Live from North Carolina for a Powered by People Town Hall YouTube video by Beto O'Rourke

Back on Bluesky (to stay), wanted to share what I’m up to.

Held a town hall in Charlotte (see below) earlier in the week. There’s power in people coming together and listening to one another. If you get a chance to watch some of it, let me know what you think. www.youtube.com/live/cRettGN...

When they try to divide us, attack the vulnerable and make us feel hopeless we’ve got to join together, bring the outsiders in and give each other a reason to be hopeful. Denton, Texas.

Three things we can do this week (4-21-25) The life of Pope Francis reminds us of our obligation to one another, especially the most vulnerable, the poor, the sick, the marginalized and the immigrant.

At a time when those who would replace kindness with cruelty, civilization with barbarism, are on the rise... At a time when those who could stop them have, until recently, seemed stunned and scattered... I find cause for hope in the example set by Pope Francis.

Three things we can do this week (4-7-25) This one’s for Sarah at O’Hare who stopped me outside of Gate B8 yesterday and said “I’m afraid we’re gonna lose our democracy.

People are coming together in huge numbers, pro-democracy candidates are winning critical elections and the separation of powers in this country is holding for now.

Let’s build on this momentum and do the work to save this country.

Think Trump’s going to try again? The threat of a third term is a lot like the one he made about being a “dictator on day one”

Trump will handle the constitutionally mandated exit from his second term much like he did the constitutionally mandated exit from his first.

The question for all of us is: will we be ready to stop him?

I was at the back and couldnt hear a damn word the speakers were saying… great problem to have, more people than watts… but it didnt matter.

The message is clear even without amplification: we choose to fight.

Too many Republican Congressmen fear Trump more than anything else. Too many of their Dem colleagues fear any kind of fight at all.

Holding town halls — all comers welcomed, no question off limits — shifts the focus to the people members of Congress are supposed to serve.

Every member of Congress regardless of party should hold a town hall in their district this month.

The only shot we have of getting the government we need is when Republicans fear their constituents more than they fear Trump and when Democrats act with the urgency felt by those they represent.

Trump and Vance are not only abandoning Ukraine. They are abandoning the security of our country. Today they made it much more likely that our service members will be fighting again in Europe, 80 years after we helped liberate the continent and make it safe for democracy.

Shameful.

In other words, Ukraine is shouldering the total cost in terms of the fighting, the lives forever damaged and the lives lost so that we and our European allies don’t have to.

We help Ukraine because it’s the right thing to do for a fellow democracy that is suffering a brutal invasion AND because if Ukraine were to fall, the next fight would be on the front lines of our NATO allies and our military would be treaty-bound to join the war.

Trump and JD trying to look tough even though it's clear that Zelensky is the strongest man in the room. The guy who was supposed to lose to Russia in a matter of hours or days is still there, fighting. As are the brave Ukrainian soldiers on the front line.

But they could care less that Ukraine was invaded by Russia — the second biggest military power on the planet — led by a ruthless dictator willing to sacrifice soldiers and civilians by the hundreds of thousands.

Openly ridiculing and demeaning a man who has kept his country alive for three years against all the odds is a national embarrassment and runs counter to our own security interests.

JD/Trump are thugs. And this ambush of Zelensky at the White House will do deep damage to Ukraine, to our allies and to the U.S.

If you want to call your member of Congress to encourage them to hold a live, in-person town hall this week, the number to the Capitol switchboard is (202) 224-3121.

But if that’s the case, they should then be open to hearing from their constituents who might have some of the answers and who are very willing to work with them in the fight now in front of us.

Some are probably afraid to do this because they don’t have a solid plan for how to confront the most corrupt administration in American history. That’s understandable — this is an unprecedented time and they are clearly scrambling to figure out a strategy.

Telephone town halls, social media posts, performing outside of locked federal buildings won’t cut it.
