Absolutely. But the question is how you do it. Impeachment requires a senate supermajority that’s going to be all but impossible to get. Creating a new model that allows a bipartisan committee of judges to rule on it would be much better.

I’m sure you’re right but it could be structured in a way that minimizes the potential for abuse (for example, by assigning responsibility to a committee of judges selected by both parties to minimize the risk of bias).

But the alternative is making it all but impossible to remove a federal judge.

That’s how it’s been used to date but it’s not mandated by the constitution and it’s actually contrary to practice at the time of adoption. Chief Justice Rehnquist was a big advocate adopting simpler procedures (which should have been used on him).

Congress, by a simple majority, could pass rules allowing for the removal of federal judges and justices for bad behavior, such as blatant perjury in their confirmation hearings (I’m looking at you, Kavanaugh). If Dems ever have a trifecta again, that’s the first thing they need to do.

I just want to remind everyone that impeachment (which is effectively impossible in this environment because of the super-majority requirement for conviction) is NOT the only way to remove a federal judge, contrary to popular belief.
