There is no evidence to support that federal research funding is being unfairly allocated to "woke" or "leftist" research.

If anything, as @pinglamjoeip.bsky.social and I found, research on structural inequality is underfunded.

I will link our original piece below.

How much are MPs entitled to know about research grants? Not as much as they think. A parliamentary committee is asking for researchers' personal information in what seems like an anti-DEI crusade, by @picardonhealth.bsky.social www.theglobeandmail.com/opinion/arti... via @theglobeandmail.com

Les #droitshumains, c’est surtout quand ça va mal qu’il faut s’y tenir.
Les rendre universels et surtout les rendre accessibles à tous et toutes devrait guider les décisions politiques et les budgets.

a woman in a hat says anyone else curious in a forest Alt: someone in a forest saying "anyone else curious?"

Squint a little, and all of that investment in AI starts to look like subsidies to keep an unsustainable service afloat--so they're starting to charge for it. Will they get enough ongoing revenue to pay for all of the server farms burning down the planet, as more and more talk about "AI Slop"?

Wiley retracts study stolen by reviewer, following Retraction Watch coverage A Wiley journal has retracted a paper more than a year after a researcher reported the work was hers and had been stolen by a reviewer for another journal. As we reported in July, Shafaq Aftab, now…

Well done Shafaq Aftab. When a reviewer stole her work and published it under his own name, she fought for a YEAR to get the journal to retract the paper. Just wondering why it took Wiley a YEAR to do this. 🧪 #academicsky

Framing Heritage Destruction as a Human Rights Violation The way in which assaults on cultural and religious sites are presented to the public is critical to linking these attacks to atrocity crimes, a new book argues.

“Because conflict is often justified through historical narratives, and because cultural heritage is tied to identity and homeland, stories around cultural heritage may be purposed to either legitimate or exploit geopolitical aims.” —Mischa Geracoulis, human rights journalist

For forty years or more we've lived with the "more market, less government" nostrum.
Now that ethos is running on stilts, at exactly a time when demographics, climate change, AI, corporate concentration and rising geopolitical tensions are demanding more government, less market.
