It feels pretty disingenuous to position some articles about the novel-panic as similar to a technology that is both social in nature and deliberately engineered to keep you from turning it off. πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

Hegseth says Iran won’t be a β€˜politically correct’ war as he lays out US objectives Hegseth criticized the media, allies and former President Joe Biden during the 40-minute press conference

So this means we’re already committing war crimes, right? www.independent.co.uk/news/world/a...

You Should Shadow A Student A day in the life of a ninth-grader at my school.

A rare weekend piece appears! Last week I shadowed a student. You should also do this, if you have any capacity to do so: davidknuffke.medium.com/you-should-s...

Adults can hold the twin notions that a country’s government sucks and illegally murdering their head of state is a really bad idea in your mind at the same time. Now is a moment to be an adult.

trump announcing a military strike on Iran while wearing a truly stupid ball cap that says β€œUSA” on it.

trump announcing a military strike on Iran while wearing a truly stupid ball cap that says β€œUSA” on it.

This is the smallest issue of the current moment. But why is he wearing this hat? Why is everything so painfully stupid now?

I don’t have any sympathy for the Iranian regime, which is all the more reason why any action against them needs to be highly competent. This, on the other hand, is an illegal clown show.

How long can the current trump regime continue to negotiate with other countries in bad faith before everyone else stops listening to anything we have to say about anything?

I think this is true of the typical vanilla chatbot interface. I am not as convinced it is true of pre-prompted and wrapped generative AI applications that are constructed to push cognition, rather than offload it.

The Novice Burden AI Chatbots and the Developmental Constraints of Learning

Three+ years on, here’s what I think useful generative AI for students (at least as far as their learning goes) looks like: davidknuffke.medium.com/the-novice-b...

DysgraphiMath Accessible math problem-solver for students with dysgraphia

Are you a person or student with dysgraphia (or do you know one)? I’m trying to make an app that helps with Math. It’s not even beta yet, but if you can kick the tires and give me notes and share it around, that would be helpful: dysgraphimath.com

Coming back from New Zealand to Singapore really does feel like two different visions of what life can be like. I wish more Americans could travel (or wanted to).

e got talking about how some people were selfish and some weren’t, and the difference between right-wing people and left-wing people. You said it all came down to imagination. Conversative people don’t usually have very much, so they find it hard to imagine what life is like for people who aren’t just like them. They can only empathise with people just like they are: the same sex, the same age, the same class, the same golf club or nation or race or whatever. Liberals can pretty much empathise with anybody else, no matter how different they are. It’s all to do with imagination, empathy and imagination are almost the same thing, and it’s why artists, creative people, are almost all liberals, left-leaning." a character in The Steep Approach to Garbadale: Iain Banks.
