A night on the wonderful @europeansleeper.eu from Amsterdam to Prague. Still a couple of hours to the end of this line so we’re taking the time enjoying our tasty breakfast boxes as the train tracks the Elbe through eastern Germany #travelwithkids

The trip that helped my dyslexic daughter overcome her writing fears A safari adventure in Botswana and Zimbabwe was perfect for this dad and his nine-year-old to find new ways to express herself β€” and document their travels

Perhaps the greatest number of spelling mistakes ever to be found in a national feature, but I’m filled with pride by every single one of them. Heidi went on our summer safari trip with a fear of the page; she came back with a story. Now up online and free to read at The Sunday Times.

A homemade pancake on the hob alongside a plate of fresh fruit and bottle of maple syrup

Well you take a dozen eggs, and a cup of milk,
And don’t forget to add a little flour.
And then you beat it up with a wooden spoon,
And leave it to settle for just one hour.

My #safari adventure with Heidi is in @thetimes.com today. There’s a lot in here: penguins in the Kalahari Desert; a tortoise who’d lost its shell; even Sean Bean turns up at one point. This was an important trip, specifically chosen with Heidi’s #dyslexia in mind ⁦β€ͺ⁦β€ͺ#travelwithkids

Found myself thinking about those Romans earlier today, so I went for a wander around Julius Caesar’s old stomping ground

Always a thrill to see my name in Nat Geo Traveller mag, this time with a round-up of the best new family trips for 2025. Coral conservation projects in #Indonesia, ice hotels in #Romania, archaeological adventures in #Egypt… there’s a lot to do out there next year #travelwithkids #familytravel

Thank you! I’m hoping to line up another similar jaunt next summer - finally take that Bar to Belgrade sleeper.

It’s such a treat if your littl’un takes to travel. Heidi slept atrociously until she was nearly two, which scuppered early trip ideas, but once her sleeping settled she’s been all-in. Hope Maeve sees it all as a great adventure too.

Four trains and a ferry: Taking the scenic route across Europe with two kids Heading to eastern Europe? Why not try it by sleeper train, stopping off to introduce the kids to new cities, says Dom Tulett

Relaxed, tanned and full of ice cream. A piece I enjoyed writing, a train (and boat) odyssey from the UK to #Montenegro, stopping for breaks at half a dozen cities along the way #travelwithkids

Fun memories of rocking up in Villa de Leyva, in the foothills of the Andes, as #Colombia were playing a World Cup qualifier. Made some friends watching the game in a tiny cafe (β€œJames RodrΓguez es bueno!”), before heading out to wander the area’s pre-Columbian sites.

Last month’s last-minute solo escape to #India. My game was to track down some tigers, and I came away with a crushing victory. Free bonus travel trip: Zone 3 of Ranthambore National Park is the most beautiful place on Earth.

This time last year: a rare trip with my dad, shortly before his cancer surgery. A blissful long weekend on the Isle of Skye, with whisky tasting, a ramble to the crumbling ruins of Knock Castle, soothing loch views and a fragile glimmer of aurora.

One of the all-time greats: travelling with the best sidekick in the game to #Zimbabwe, #Namibia and #Botswana this summer. Vic Falls, safari drives, Okavango Delta, ancient rock art, camping in the wild, core memories #travelwithkids

A fresh start, so I’ll lay down some padding in my timeline by going back as far as my photos will allow, popping on the highlights of my favourite trips and/or stories from over the years…
