They stand there, embracing, with nothing but the sound of Kacchan’s heartbeat. It’s too early for anyone to be up and Izuku’s grateful for it. He’s grateful he gets to be this close with his very alive childhood friend.

“I’ll try.” Katsuki whispers softly.

“Whenever you need to hear it, just ask.” Katsuki chuffs as Izuku nods his head gratefully. “I had to stay the night at Denim Head’s. Ya don’t need to cuddle with every blonde you see!”

“That’s not-” Izuku laughs before letting it go. “Come home sooner then.”

“I was so worried.” He admits. “I know you’re strong. And amazing. And Best Jeanist was there and Edgeshot and-”

Before he could finish that thought, Katsuki pulls him to his chest and lets him hear his heart beat.

Izuku’s eyes widen at the gesture before he finally relaxes.

“H-huh?” Katsuki blinks in confusion.

“Kacchan! Please!” Izuku demands with his secret weapon, his big baby doll eyes that no one had said ‘no’ to yet!

Katsuki wordlessly hands him his phone and Izuku immediately shares his location with himself before smiling in relief.

“Oh would you look at the time? I best be getting to class!” Neito rushes away, leaving them alone.

“Izuku! You better have a good explanation for fraternizing with the en-”

“Let me see your phone!” Izuku rushes Katsuki, finally getting the courage he should have had days ago.

“Kacchan!” Izuku’s eyes brighten in relief when suddenly Monoma pulls him into his chest and smirks at Katsuki.

“What does it look like, you brute? Haven’t you ever heard of a tryst between rivals?” Neito pets the confused Izuku’s hair.

“A WHAT?!” Katsuki screams.

Izuku doesn’t notice when his eyes drift shut. And when sleep overtakes him.

“WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU TWO DOING CUDDLED UP ON THE COUCH LIKE THAT?!”

He wakes up to a very angry Kacchan returning to the dorms in the morning.

Izuku had always known how amazing he was! But he also knew how human he was! He was a beautiful, amazing, bright light. And he deserved to have people look out for him so he could shine on forever!

It was comforting having someone to watch the clock with.

“I know…” Izuku cries with him then smiles. “Thank you for apologizing. And thank you for worrying about him too!”

Kacchan’s presence was a great comfort to everyone. He was strong. So everyone felt safe with him. Everyone always assumed he would be okay no matter what.

Neito bows his head. “I’m so sorry…” He repeats as tears flow out of his eyes.

“Have you really been guilty about that all this time?” Izuku questions.

“He didn’t deserve everything Shigaraki and All for One did to him. And he didn’t deserve what I said either!”

“That’s not true!” Izuku insists. “We were in a safe environment. You would never actually hurt Kacchan.”

“But I didn’t like him! And it’s obvious he’s dear to you! I took advantage of that and then watched the worst villain in history do the same exact thing! I’m sorry!”

“Not of that.” Monoma suddenly pokes him. “Of you.”

“Of… me?” Izuku blinks.

“The day I offended you by speaking ill of him! Now I owe Uraraka and Shinso my life!” Neito sighs. “All For One used the same tactics I did to get to you. I’m no better than him.”

“I’m not used to being in such a good place with him. I’m sure he would share if I asked.”

“That would have saved me a lot of time, Midoriya!” Neito yawns. “But I’m sure what we saw was a lot worse for you. I still get nightmares.”

“Me too!” Izuku tears up.
