In the Bali wind is my aunt with her eldest children. A moment captured in the short period, that they lived in Indonesia, after the war and before coming to the Netherlands in 1950.
My niece and I were born here; we never knew our parents there. What was their life like there, what was going on in them and what did they leave behind.
While drawing, I get deeper into their lives, feel the warmth of the climate, the coldness of the war: despair and deep sorrow, but also the unstoppable female strength to keep going.
