crows feet punctuate
reflection of the lifetimes
within his tired eyes
rhinoceros we hibernate in dank january basements metal pings against metal strings plucked reeds vibrate hammers oscillate pitches change and bend and wildly travel across the corners of the room as the darkness hides the bloodshot of each others eyes nag champa auters cloying chicago style left dripping from our doc martens and our cheap glass pendants we get lost in the sonic bliss of someone else's noise which then becomes ours.
In late 1991/early 1992 I first heard the album 'Gish' by the group Smashing Pumpkins, and their track 'Rhinoceros.' Grunge followed.

Ultimately, it wasn't the riffs or hooks. It wasn't the dreamy atmospherics. It wasn't the solid bass or drum chops holding it up. It was the 30 seconds of messy feedback at the end of the song; emblematic of an entire genre. Love began there.

thorn
ice supplants roses
inescapable cold chill
winter thorns dig deep
arrival crisp the crunch of footsteps between the concrete breezeway and the day nearly over the oranges and pinks dapple my face with soon to be meltwater dropped from the whisps of the most gentle of winters openings the last gasp of november hangs upon the wind and floats for just a moment longer we smile at each other as it slowly fades into decembers frozen graces.
