Back on the Sky! I guess I'll introduce myself again - my name’s Albert. Or Al, whichever you prefer.
I’m a writer-director and love to craft films that explore grounded stories with a sprinkle of magical realism; to stir the mind, heart, and imagination.

Celine Song's "Past Lives" is a marvel. Her tender story and observant, quiet camera (shot on gorgeous 35mm by Shabier Kirchner) wandering with these characters washed me in all the best ways that cinema can operate on us -- as an empathy machine.

Hey Gary! How do you narrow down story directions when you have a few competing thoughts that are all great - but will drive your characters entirely down a different pathway? Do you have a specific filter you run these ideas through, or just test at the wall with what feels right?

It’s a LOT more quiet, in the best ways possible. Welcome brother!

I just want to say - these are incredible and I’d watch an entire film in this style!

Todd Field has only made three feature films, with a whopping 16 year gap in between his last two. He's one of the first directors that was hailed to be Kubrick's successor.
A few months ago he shared 'TAR' will most likely be his final film.
Never rush. Quality > Quantity.

So much of being an artist is learning to surrender to the process, while still being on your toes at any moment as inspiration and genius winds flow in new ways.
It's an interesting dichotomy, but I believe passion and never losing original intent keeps the journey fresh.

Sometimes trusting God means sitting in the still, quiet mundane when nothing is happening, and other times it's having courage to run into audacious seas.
Neither is easier than the other, and despite fears that taunt, it's comforting to know He's always with us and guiding.
