I think I saw Tobias dunk once all the years he played for the Sixers. I think. I might be mistaken, though.

I always wonder about that, but I’m pretty sure Clover was looking for mayhem

My Pop survived a 60 day ICU stay and beat the odds, recovered from sepsis and kidney failure, and is going back to work at age 79 to the career he loves. Feeling very blessed and it put a lot in perspective.

McCain and Isaiah Joe 10 for 18 from 3 last night, and the Sixers shot 12 for 46 tonight. Ew.

There is root canal, and then there is the "typical 76ers third quarter." I cannot tell these apart.

Well said. I do still love the 5th, but I just feel like the 4th is his truest voice.

I live in Philly so I have access to a ton of live music. I see usually 20-30 shows a season. I saw Shosty 4 in Philly 2 seasons ago with Tugan Sokhiev conducting, and it was life changing for me. I think about it like Shosty's 5th is what he had to say, but the 4th is what he really WANTED to say.

For me my secret favorite form is chamber choir or small vocal ensemble stuff. Brahms’ chamber choral stuff is mind-blowing to me in particular.

Chausson may be my favorite song composer of them all! Shosty is a toss up for me between his SQs and symphonies - that 4th symphony is just such an angsty masterpiece to me and one of my favorite pieces ever written.

I would personally rank Beethoven’s SQs ahead of his symphonies, for example. A lot of them wrote what they got paid to (especially pre-Beethoven), too - Haydn being a good example. He didn’t get to do some of what he wanted (large choral works) until later in life - when he was more $ independent

I think the classical music public seems to have a preference for large forms. On my list of 16 the only β€œpure” symphonist was really Mahler (and I put that in air quotes because he wrote a lot of lieder also). Otherwise I could argue that small forms for any of them were just as good.

I can’t imagine not having Chopin on mine. He’s the greatest classical melodist of them all, to me.
