Meanwhile the National Cycle Network in UK has 16 THOUSAND barriers. Needs funding to remove them all and law changes to stop council and police and land owners and house builders from installing new ones on walking and cycling routes!

This! πŸ‘‡ This is why I cycle on the terribly narrow, bumpy, muddy and pitch black canal over the @a38cycleway.bsky.social cos all the waits are so infuriating. Brum is doing some good ad-hoc changes to ppl waiting times but all need doing and faster. Zero or 30 second max wait please.

It's a common refrain for ministers to note Nigel Farage's absence from the Commons, but the stats do seem to back it up. So far this year he has spoken five times and voted seven times. As a very rough, smaller-party comparison, Ellie Chowns of the Greens has spoken 46 times and voted 24 times.

Thanks to Donald and Benjamin for being so passionate about keeping their people and humanity safe, definitely that's the reason for them bombing another country. Definitely.

Amazing πŸ‘‡ But shows how inequality in investment and delivery in public health, growth and transport between London & Birmingham is growing exponentially. Londoners shouldn't get less, everywhere else in England should be getting the same delivery and benefits.

I am slightly in awe of this photo taken of my grandparents just as they were about to casually ride a tandem on a 500+ mile round trip from their home in Nottingham to Devon, as if that is something you could just do really easily in 1948 on your week off from the factories where you worked.

πŸš‚ I presented a bill for a Rail Passengers' Charter to be created. I highlighted the importance of investing in public transport that is accessible, high-quality and consistent.

The Charter will put passengers experience and value for money first, ensuring good intentions become reality.

The question on NYC's congestion pricing has quickly moved from "is it working?" to "why isn't my city doing this?"

Pedestrians have indeed lost a lot to #UKCarCulture in Birmingham. But there is something we can do about it!

@betterstreetsforbirmingham.org meets on the first Monday of every month, 6 PM, @birminghamfoe.bsky.social.

All welcome to join us to reclaim the public space of our streets!

Spanish Prime Minister SΓ‘nchez has announced a nationwide train ticket costing €60 per month.
For those under 26, it will cost €30. The Spain Ticket is intended to encourage environmentally friendly travel.

It’s time we stopped viewing driving bans like this. Cars are a dangerous weapon when used incorrectly. Upon release, he needs to travel to access work he can use other modes.

If this case doesn’t warrant a lifetime driving bans, what would?

You might think that a man who drove into 100 people, using his car as a weapon, would NEVER be allowed to drive again.

It turns out he will be able to, around three years after leaving prison by taking an extended retest.

Why should he ever be able to get behind the wheel again?

Yes. It was the mounting evidence on the benefits of walking & cycling, & new evidence that corporate health assessments have small benefits, that made me change career from the private health, obesity & fitness industry to active travel. 10years on & I wish the penny would drop with politicians too

Health pledges top the list of Britons’ New Year’s resolutions for 2026

Health pledges top the list of Britons’ New Year’s resolutions for 2026

Cycling and walking could help deliver almost everything Brits say they want to achieve in 2026 β€” if we design streets to support them.

Getting fitter, losing weight, being healthier, saving money; enabling active travel quietly does all of it. With no gym contracts.

This! πŸ‘‡ In my personal response to the CWIS3 consultation I recommended targets be added for a) a reduction in the total number of car trips per year and b) a reduction in total miles driven per year in England. Walking and cycling won't get easier or safer if we continue to drive more year on year.

Street safety is *not* a shared responsibility.

Rather, it's a responsibility borne by those who have the greatest power to make streets safer: Car companies, policymakers, and road designers.

Stop shifting blame on those walking, biking, and driving.

Someone wearing rain gear and holding a bike on an escalator

Every time I see someone with a bike on a BART escalator, it makes me smile - especially this rider prepared for rain.

Not all policy making is so visible & tangible.

Two years after we started allowing bikes on escalators, it’s worked perfectly. I haven’t heard complaints or of any big accidents.

Following today’s sentencing of Paul Doyle, several people have understandably queried why he was not banned from driving for life.

It’s a good question, and one I attempted to grapple with in #NothingButTheTruth in the context of repeat driving offenders.

Reasoning worth considering here, but I think this is also a case of the people who make the rules being car owners themselves and not being able to imagine living without one.

Which would also explain why the safety and dignity of countless thousands of families without cars count for so little.
