This year's winner of the audience favourite competition was Gunnar Skare from Ørsta. Gunnar is probably the only brewer in Norway who still makes his own malt and has his own kveik. This year Gunnar air-dried the malt.

The winners of the judged competition were Kristoffer Lia and Robin Jacobsen Hetleøen. They are not traditional brewers, but learned to brew Morgedal-style maltøl (eastern Norway) from Halvor & Terje from Morgedal when they demo brewed at the festival a few years ago. They said they literally ...

Second place in the judged competition went to Idar Nygård from Hornindal, who has been brewing since 1995. He brewed a classic Hornindal-style kornøl with his own kveik. He doesn't look super happy in this photo, but we can assure you he was.

3rd place in the judged competition went to Nils Olaf Kyllo, a traditional brewer from Stjørdal, participating with a classic stjørdalsøl from self-smoked malt, with baking yeast. Nils Olaf has been brewing for 30 years, but this was his first time at the festival.

Newcomer of the Year went to Andreas Solvik og Arvid Dybevoll for a kornøl a la Hornindal (raw ale with kveik). They come from Markane, a district 10km from Hornindal, which has a number of active brewers. They are the first participants from Markane, and so we were extra happy to have them.

This year's demo brewer at the festival is Øystein Menes, who lives in Førde in Sunnfjord. He learned to brew from his uncle from Vik in Sogn, so he brews Sogn-style beer. He has brewed for 40 years and held a number of brewing courses in traditional brewing.

He has a theory that cheesemaking in the brewhouse may have caused it to get into the beer in older times. He found research that says it can ferment to 15%
