How does a politician invalidate decades of scientific progress?
The answer is ... only with government agencies compelled to follow the directive.
Science has not changed. People & businesses understand that.
The later may chose to pretend for while, but they'll still be subject to the reality.
We don't just vote with our wallets. Sometimes we vote with our feet.
Proud of the women's hockey team for not allowing casual misogyny to go unchallenged.
Or, said another way, Boards increase companies' value by embracing #DEI

Is there a productive conversation there? I do miss the real engagement but that had largely faded away. I closed my account, which means I would have to start over rebuilding, so not sure it is worth it.
Sadly Bluesky hasn't really taken its place. Started strong, then sputtered
Mine too. Waited a long time to get there. So amazing to see in person.

The sixth grade me vowed to one day see firsthand the glories of ancient #Egypt.
The last two week saw that dream come true.
The magnificent remnants of a bygone age are impressive, humbling and stunning.

They should release Groundhog Day 2 - exactly the same film except title changed to Groundhog Day 2.
Do this every year until it wins Oscar for best picture.
The only way out of the time loop is to fix what needed to be.
Once again, we're not yet ready for what's already happened.

The markets are defying the political headwinds

Every purchase is a 'vote' for the kind of world we want. Social power IS economic power.
That's why boycotts work. Why strikes work. Why telling an aggressive leader 'do that and we'll call in all of our loans and destroy your debt-fueled economy' worked.
Time to use our economic power
I earn this 250th anniversary of the USA jersey if donations for @nationalmssociety.bsky.social reach $1000! Just $232 gets me there!

Companies doing #sustainability work but keeping silent are making same mistake Joe Biden did, expecting stakeholders to recognize good works (like infrastructure) anyway.

I make an effort to focus my comments on sustainable business strategy, implementation and communication and NOT go down the 'whirlpool' of politics.
Business makes sense (at least in theory).

The image of President Trump turning back from Europe because he is totally in the dark is a strikingly apt metaphor.
(AF1 returned to USA, and he flew over later.)
Our allies are giving us every chance to correct course.
Before we self emolliate.
βI am in Birmingham because injustice is hereβ¦..Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.β

So much for "free market" Republicans. If investors believe that #ESG factors provide them with information that helps them evaluate risk and opportunities, they should be allowed to invest.
Not prohibited, not required, but allowed to.

"When even the most powerful business leaders stay quiet because they fear retribution, it says something about the state of the democracies they operate in that is undeniably dark."
Especially when their stakeholders want, deserve and demand updates on material risks (and opportunities).
I have often said 'this will not end well for the USA.'

A former subordinate asking me to consider coming out of retirement to be their leader again is probably the greatest professional compliment I will ever receive.
That's the best #legacy I can imagine.
Clinging to jargon & acronyms drives a wedge between the #business and #sustainability.
Our separate identity hurts the oft-articulated goal of integration.
As for hushing, that contains its own risks (failing to meet customer, employee and investor needs).
As companies (re)focus their #sustainability efforts & messaging to be more aligned with their business strategy, my book explains how to do this.
We have faced threats, challenges & skepticism before. This tried-and-true methodology includes real world examples.

Failure to assess and address climate risk is a failure of fiduciary responsibility.
Failure to disclose *known* material risks to physical locations, infrastructure & supply chains is fraud.
Deliberately avoiding assessing risks to avoid uncomfortable disclosure ... is malfeasance.
