Good afternoon, bird people. Tell us what Birds in the World are you seeing today? Bonus if you grab a link to the species account from BOW!
We'll go first: Horned Lark in New York:

Eastern Red-Legged Thrushes are found in Hispaniola, Puerto Rico, and Dominica. When defending territory, females were observed being more aggressive towards intruders. Males chase each other, often crashing mid-air and continuing to fight on the ground. birdsoftheworld.org/bow/species/relthr3
25.02.2026 17:57 β π 74 π 4 π¬ 1 π 1Though the Black-eared Catbird of New Guinea and Australia is classified as a bowerbird (Ptilonorhynchidae), males do not construct courtship bowers. Pairs are monogamous as well, further separating this species and others in its genus from other bowerbirds. birdsoftheworld.org/bow/species/bkecat4
25.02.2026 17:56 β π 48 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0Lilacine Amazon is endemic to Ecuador and is Critically Endangered with population estimates of less than 2,500. As forests are cleared for crop plantations, wood extraction, and urban expansion, this parrotβs suitable habitat is rapidly disappearing. birdsoftheworld.org/bow/species/relpar9

24.02.2026 17:44 β π 24 π 6 π¬ 0 π 1In 2025, the Red Grouse was (finally) elevated to species status via AviList. Heather provides essential cover and predominates the diet of this bird year-round, sometimes entirely. As a result, its distribution is closely tied to managed heather moorlands in Britain and Ireland.

The Eastern Rockhopper Penguin is listed as a Vulnerable species, as several colonies have lost up to 94% of their population since the 1940s. Major threats include disease outbreaks and mudslides due to overgrazing from introduced livestock and rabbits. birdsoftheworld.org/bow/species/rocpen3
13.02.2026 20:37 β π 61 π 15 π¬ 0 π 0Critically endangered, the Antioquia Brushfinch is range-restricted to the northern Central Andes in Colombia. In 1971, this small bird was considered extinct but was thankfully rediscovered in 2018. Recent expeditions have found even more viable populations! birdsoftheworld.org/bow/species/antbrf1
13.02.2026 20:37 β π 79 π 14 π¬ 1 π 0The Sharp-billed Treehunter is a nimble forager, often hanging upside down as it flits on trees and vine tangles gleaning for insects. Its small size and agility allow it to find prey often hidden to other species. Click here to see these acrobats in action: birdsoftheworld.org/bow/species/shbtre1

Taxonomy and phylogeny are two sides of the same coin, but that doesn't mean they are always in agreement. I wrote a blog post on why the new Phylogeny Explorer in @birdsoftheworld.bsky.social is such a big deal in that regard, and what's in store next for us.
