It's becoming increasingly clear to me that Reflect Orbital's fucking stupid giant mirror satellite, with absolutely NOTHING useful to offer, which will cause countless safety issues, ecological disasters, and destroy the night sky, is going to launch.
A bunch of astronomers and I have sent out […]

"Sideloading" is the rentseeker word for "being able to run software of your choosing on a computing device you purchased". There is no reasonable case for an operating system developer having a say over what programs you run on your hardware.

“RSS has been the backbone of the podcast industry (…) quietly serving feeds to millions of users everywhere with few of them aware that an open protocol from the 90s was serving up their content. As with every other corner of the internet where money could be made, corporate raiders have come […]

1990 logo of the World Wide Web by Robert Cailliau consisting of three superimposed "W"s and the text "Let's share what we know – World wide web".
To quote Tim Berners-Lee:
"The dream behind the #Web is of a common information space in which we communicate by sharing information. Its universality is essential: the fact that a hypertext link can point to anything, be it personal, local or global, be it draft or highly polished."

"We left the World Wide Web for social media and we got locked in to algorithm driven walled-gardens, and we don’t even have a wall any more, we have a stream and all manner of refuse flows through it. We left the World Wide Web when we decided that user visits and going viral was more important […]

"We left the World Wide Web for commercial magazines and we got advertisements. We left the World Wide Web for eCommerce and got cookies and tracking, so that they can tell us we’ve forgotten products in their shopping cart, or send ads to follow us after we’ve just purchased that exact same […]

Long live the #Web. Can't express it better than The HTML Hobbyist (https://www.htmlhobbyist.com):
Once upon a time, the World Wide Web was the Wild Wild West. (...) 25 years later, the barrier to entry in creating, publishing, and maintaining a website is not any higher than it was in 1994. If […]
