πŸ‘‡πŸŽ― Of course. But, as with all the other things, Trump can do whatever he wants as long as Article I of the constitution is totally non-operative. The institutions are not self-enforcing. He can act as a Mad King as long as we don’t have a functioning legislative branch. It’s a Reverse Enabling Act.

That Nigel Farage thinks it is more important not to endanger his backing from the US government than take a position that reflects the overwhelming sentiment of the British public reflects underlying structural contradictions that could split the British Far Right

The real lesson to take from Gorton and Denton is for the future of UK democracy | Institute for Government Westminster is dangerously underprepared for a multi-party future.

πŸ‘€ β€œleadership would mean recognising this byelection as a warning – an urgent signal of the need to prepare UK democracy for a multi-party future”

Or if, like Trump, you're an idiot who thinks "president" means the same everywhere.

What a worthless account. Only posts screenshots of the Nazi platform, without alt text so people think she's just insulting them with no context.

It's a screenshot of a tweet of hers with the same text (πŸ™„ why??? Just let the bsky post stand for itself ffs), but it's a quote of Nigel Farage saying "The Prime Minister must change his mind on the use of our military bases and back the Americans in this vital fight against Iran!"

I initially read this as "the high priests of Illinois" and wondered when Illinois had become a theocracy

The US is specifically not a party to the Rome Statute.

If I was faced with a compulsory service charge, I wouldn't eat there. It's unacceptable.

Labour haven't been leftist since Blair took over.

A bar chart is a very strange way of depicting points on a continuum rather than quantities

Hilarious that I got sent this meme by someone on Bluesky, forwarded it to some ministers, and now it’s in The Times

Don’t let anyone tell you Bluesky doesn’t have influence ✌️

As ever, I don't imagine myself representative of anyone but me. But if I'd had a vote in Gorton I'd have agonised, then done whatever felt most likely to stop Goodwin. After Starmer and Mahmoud's responses I now feel quite motivated to vote *against* Labour?

thread. Nearly everything Starmer said about the Green Party in his post-by-election speech is a lie or, charitably, a misrepresentation.

27.02.2026 18:54 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

These are misrepresentations of Green policy, which are decriminalisation of drugs and strengthening defence ties with Europe, reducing dependence on the US. Polanski has said "pull out of NATO" but that is not the policy. bsky.app/profile/zoec...

The 2024 Rochdale by-election was a special case. The Labour and Green candidates were both disowned by their respective parties, leaving Galloway as the only viable vaguely left candidate. He certainly benefitted from the chaos. bsky.app/profile/zoec...

27.02.2026 18:16 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

This is hilariously wrong. According to the FT, there are about 250,000 Labour members, whereas Green Party membership stands at around 195,000. If the Greens can't mobilise b/c of those numbers, the Conservatives at 125,000 or so certainly can't. www.ft.com/content/1385... bsky.app/profile/zoec...

27.02.2026 18:00 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Several of the policies he's mentioned are supported by the Greens. There's no reason to think they couldn't or wouldn't achieve them if they were in power. bsky.app/profile/zoec...

27.02.2026 17:35 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

The Green campaign did not accept Galloway's endorsement, as far as I can tell. Moreover, the numbers don't add up. The winning margin was nearly 12%, more than the Workers Party's 10% in 2024. bsky.app/profile/zoec...

I don't think he's yet noticed that the party leader is a Jew. Calling the Greens "sectarian" is simply detached from reality. bsky.app/profile/zoec...

Starmer is desperate and unhinged. This characterization bears no resemblance to the actual candidate or party.

"Family voting" is not about a nice chat over the dinner table. It's about checking how family members vote in the polling booth. It's a form of electoral coercion, and it matters.

It's not unique to any one group, & it isn't hard to see how it could be used by an Andrew Tate-style party in future.

27.02.2026 09:42 β€” πŸ‘ 48    πŸ” 3    πŸ’¬ 3    πŸ“Œ 0

Did this decide the result? Almost certainly not.

But electoral integrity matters, and if observers see malpractice we should want them to report it.

*Of course* Reform will try to exploit this. But if we trash these processes when they go against "our side", we're no better than they are.

The Green victory in Denton is the result which will have the biggest effect on Labour, far more so than a Reform win.

The blithe assumption progressives have nowhere else to go has been proved catastrophically wrong.

Can’t help thinking of this quote from a Labour minister, a year ago…
