The second you leave this country for even a few days, you realize the place you call home is decaying at an almost exponential pace. The realization that you don't have to live like this is stark, and that nobody in power is taking tangible actions to fix it in your lifetime is even starker.

Data centers target rural communities for lower costs, not to create high-quality jobs, study finds Local governments often tell residents that the power-hungry developments will bring numerous tech jobs to their communities. A new study contradicted that.

Philadelphia Sheriff Rochelle Bilal warns ICE:

"No law enforcement professional wears a mask... Those that come into our communities wearing a mask to commit crime... You getting arrested".

"Fake wannabe law enforcement... The criminal in the WH will not be able to keep you from going to jail".

A Black man was killed by ICE (off duty) in Los Angeles on New Year’s Eve. And like RenΓ©e Good, he was an American citizen. But most people have not heard about Keith Porter.

I need y’all to realize this. Black people experience this lack of visibility all the time when it comes to being victims.

The fact that Trump is on an international tear and attacking citizens in American cities and his base loves it proves this was never about improving the lives of his supporters. It’s about living out their hate, prejudice, and anger.

Abolish and prosecute ICE. They did a murder in broad daylight today. Imagine what they're doing in the closed facilities we're somehow not even allowed to see.

Excerpt reads: "Prioritize your neighborhood
Neighborhoods drive our happiness (or unhappiness) more than we think.

When Lina Martinez, director of POLIS, the Center for Wellbeing Studies at Universidad Icesi in Colombia, studied the happiness of households in the city of Cali, she couldn’t find much difference between poorer and richer areas. β€œTheir happiness is pretty much the same,” she said. But that changed when she isolated neighborhood conditions, such as access to transit, health care and parks. β€œThe conditions of the neighborhood affect happiness,” she said. β€œI can’t link that to the space where [people] live.”

That aligns with findings from a 2023 study of the Vancouver metro area: Researchers found no significant differences in well-being between people living in single detached homes, duplexes, townhouses, laneway houses and apartment buildings (basement units smaller than 300 square feet were the only negative exception). What did people say they missed most in their neighborhood? Affordability, proximity to family and friends, and a sense of community. Home design was eighth on the list."

A Washington Post article suggests that, beyond a certain threshold, larger homes don't make people happier. Instead, well-being is correlated with affordable housing in walkable neighborhoods where they feel socially connected.

We Are the Bad Guys The swaggering threat to global stability is us.

β€œWhat do we call it when a stronger person decides to rob a weaker person because he can? It is just gangsterism. We are the most dangerous gangsters in the world today. Not in the sense of being charming rogues or alluring antiheroes. We are the bad guys.”

Instead of whatever this is, we should have a government getting lots of new homes and apartments built, lots of clean energy built, lots of high speed rail and transit and bike lanes built, human rights for everyone, economic & healthcare opportunities for all, & innovation that leads the world.

Can't help but feel like this is one of the reasons why the Constitution says If a dude in office does an insurrection, don't let that motherfucker hold office again

Bc clearly they cannot be trusted with power & control over the levers of government, & they do not care about democratic constraints

People are going to try and lure you into debates about whether Maduro was a good guy or not and the thing is, it doesn’t matter for the purposes of discussing whether violent kidnappings and extrajudicial murders by the US government are ok. No, they aren’t! End of convo.

Bike math is paying a few hundred $ for your vehicle, zero for gas, and zero for parking.

Car math is giving away a quarter of your salary for car payment, parking, gas, insurance and wasting your life in traffic.

Maths are not the same.

A Hampton Inn in Asheville just canceled my family's reservation because our address (incorrectly) showed Ashevilleβ€”and the hotel bars locals within 50 miles.

When I asked why, they said, "because of our homeless population," adding that most hotels here have similar policies.

This is outrageous.
