I’m proud to announce that I have secured more than $270,000 for the Marine Mammal Center to bring its Ocean Ambassadors Program to CA-10 (2/3).

The Marine Mammal Center in Sausalito – with its commitment to rescuing, rehabilitating, and releasing animals that are injured, sick, or abandoned – is beloved by all who visit (1/3).

Following years of advocating for the Port Chicago 50, one of my proudest moments as a Member of Congress was receiving the call that, after 80 years of being wrongfully and discriminatorily charged, the US Navy was finally exonerating the Port Chicago 50 (1/2).

She became a National Park Ranger at the age of 85 to do just that!

Betty died last year at the age of 104, but her spirit continues to inspire Californians (4/4).

After attending a meeting on the development of the Rosie the Riveter/World War II Home Front National Park, Betty was committed to sharing the first-hand experiences of women working in wartime industry, including racial segregation and discrimination (3/4).

During World War II, Betty took a job with the US Air Force before learning that they employed her only because her supervisors believed she was white. Betty promptly left and took a position with the International Boilermakers Union in Richmond as a file clerk (2/4).

We’re wrapping up our Black History Month spotlight with one of my personal heroes and an East Bay legend – Betty Reid Soskin. Betty came to call Oakland home as a young girl and graduated from Castlemont High School (1/4).

I will unequivocally be voting YES on the bipartisan war powers resolution next week and implore Republicans Leadership to stand up and speak up. This must be stopped immediately and this President’s madness and recklessness must be confronted now (2/2).

I strongly condemn President Trump’s unlawful military action against Iran. Americans do not want to see us plunged into another endless foreign war and the President does not have the authority to do so (1/2).

Remembered as a member of the “Big Five of Bayview,” Elouise’s legacy lives on at the Westbrook Plaza Health Center which bears her name (4/4).

In 1968, Elouise led lobbying efforts for the Committee on Capitol Hill, successfully securing $40 million for new affordable housing projects in the Bay Area. Over the next decades, Elouise continued to push for more affordable housing for Bay Area residents and health care access for all (3/4).

After the 1959 San Francisco redevelopment plan displaced thousands of low-income residents with no new affordable homes constructed, Elouise joined forces with her fellow neighbors on the Hunters Point-Bayview Joint Housing Committee to petition for change (2/4).

As Black History Month comes to a close, we’re sharing the story of another local unsung hero, Elouise Westbrook, who was born and raised in Texas before moving to San Francisco in the years after World War II (1/4).

I was thrilled to secure $1 million for Central San in this year’s Community Project Funding cycle to upgrade the ultraviolet disinfection technology at their treatment facility and protect public health and water quality in an environmentally friendly way (2/2).

This morning, I welcomed the Central Contra Costa Sanitary District to my DC office to discuss the important but often unseen undertaking of wastewater collection, treatment, and disposal, which they have been providing to nearly half a million residents in Contra Costa for almost 80 years (1/2).

Americans Are Paying For Trump’s Tariffs, Study Finds A new study from the Kiel Institute found that foreign exporters only absorb 4% of tariff burden.

In fact, a recent study by an independent economic research institute found that only 4% of the tariff burden was absorbed by foreign exporters, the other 96% was passed to U.S. buyers in what the report called a “tax paid almost entirely by Americans” (2/2).

While President Trump touts his illegal tariffs, American families across the country are seeing costs rise for everyday necessities. It’s clear that American consumers are overwhelmingly paying for Trump’s tariffs (1/2).
