Dudley Zoo and Castle is a registered charity. Home to many endangered species, who live around an 11th century castle, the site also houses the world’s largest single collection of Tecton buildings as well as being of important geological significance.
A warming drink on a cold day is appreciated by many – even our great apes!
The likes of our orangs & chimps regularly receive warm fruit teas in the winter months & in the summer, they enjoy drinking them cold.

Our 40-acre site is starting to spring to life and swathes of stunning snowdrops are carpeting our hillside – including the black lemur habitat.

Red pandas do not have paw pads, instead fur covers the entire soles of their feet which adds extra insulation from the cold weather.

Our half term talk programme is underway, when you can discover more about some of our species who have been paired as part of breeding programmes.

Our Brazilian tapirs, Chico and Meena, have been enjoying some extra winter pampering!
During colder months, keepers regularly apply barrier ointment and hoof putty to the tapirs' feet, which protects their feet and hooves from the hard and icy ground.
Meena especially loves the foot massages!
