In case this wasn't obvious - calling something "evidence based" requires accurately presenting rigorous data from multiple reliable sources to show a consistent outcome.

Beyond Ivy League, RFK Jr.’s NIH Slashed Science Funding Across States That Backed Trump - KFF Health News A KFF Health News analysis underscores how the terminations have spared no part of the country, politically or geographically. πŸ“£ It's simple: politicizing science = less safe, effective cancer care, SUD treatment, vaccines = poor quality of life, unnecessary deaths. Helpful visualization by @kff.org. At least 780 grants terminated (universities alone, more across other institutes). Tell your neighbors why this matters! πŸ§ͺ

Internal budget document reveals extent of Trump’s proposed health cuts HHS would be asked to absorb a $40 billion cut, about one-third of its discretionary budget.

The proposal cuts the #NIH budget 40% to $27 billion, consolidates the NIH’s into 8 institutes, eliminating many. This would be devastating for keeping Americans healthy & scientifically advanced. Call Congress now!

Do you know about health-related programs that have been cancelled due to federal funding cuts or delays?

@kffhealthnews.org we're looking to cover stories about programs that provided *direct* services to people.

@mcuban.bsky.social this is a long shot but my account is small & the losses to science are too great to not ask for favors. Please consider getting the word out about AHRQ & NIH funding cuts. We are losing a generation of scientists & American innovation. Thanks! πŸ€žπŸ™

πŸ™ Shameless ask: It’s my birthday. Scientists, please call your Congress peeps & tell them why AHRQ & NIH are critical to curing cancer, treating & preventing substance use, ensuring healthcare access in rural America, the list goes on. Without real #AHRQ & #NIH funding we will be a sicker country.

White House withdraws Trump's pick Dave Weldon as CDC director pick The White House is withdrawing President Donald Trump's nomination of Republican former congressman and vaccine critic Dave Weldon to serve as director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, a source briefed on the matter said on Thursday.

Trump just withdrew the bad CDC nominee after public blowback about the measles vaccine.

Scientists, we can achieve the same with the bad NIH nominee. Public pressure can force out Bhattacharya.
Your voices are needed now. Please take action. πŸ§ͺ

Even if the administration allows meetings to resume, there is already a huge backlog of applications and far fewer federal officials to process the backlog.

2025 will go down as a dark year for American science. We need to keep speaking out about this.

Some brief thoughts from someone who studies public opinion. The federal firing spree can be made unpopular because it is being done in a haphazard way, there will be huge economic effects not just in DC but also across country & it's also likely illegal in many cases. But how to make that argument?

-More cancer deaths
-More overdose deaths
-More AIDS deaths
-More asthma deaths
-More cardiovascular deaths
-More lupus deaths
-More measles deaths
-More sepsis deaths
-More liver & kidney-related deaths
-More infant deaths

#HealthPolicyValentines - the bright spot we need today!
Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
Of evidence-based SUD treatment policies,
There simply are too few,

'Hey, why not just get treatment?'
Remember, SUD stigma and misinformation are all too frequent πŸ’œ

The Senate HELP Committee has jurisdiction over NIH.

GOP members of the committee represent AK, AL, IN, FL, KS, KY, LA, ME, MO, OH, and SC.

Research universities and hospitals in those states need to be extra loud.
