The proposal cuts the #NIH budget 40% to $27 billion, consolidates the NIH’s into 8 institutes, eliminating many. This would be devastating for keeping Americans healthy & scientifically advanced. Call Congress now!

Trump just withdrew the bad CDC nominee after public blowback about the measles vaccine.

📢 Make it a goal to talk to 3 family members, friends, or strangers each week about how freezes on scientific progress & higher education will negatively impact people’s lives in a personal way (cancer tx, their kids college, etc). The general public needs to know why this matters.

Even if the administration allows meetings to resume, there is already a huge backlog of applications and far fewer federal officials to process the backlog.

Some brief thoughts from someone who studies public opinion. The federal firing spree can be made unpopular because it is being done in a haphazard way, there will be huge economic effects not just in DC but also across country & it's also likely illegal in many cases. But how to make that argument?

Firing the heads of Institutes at the NIH (NIAID, NIDA, NCI, etc) will mean:
-More cancer deaths
-More overdose deaths
-More AIDS deaths
-More asthma deaths
-More cardiovascular deaths
-More lupus deaths
-More measles deaths
-More sepsis deaths
-More liver & kidney-related deaths
-More infant deaths

#HealthPolicyValentines - the bright spot we need today!
Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
Of evidence-based SUD treatment policies,
There simply are too few,
Next time you think,
'Hey, why not just get treatment?'

The Senate HELP Committee has jurisdiction over NIH.

GOP members of the committee represent AK, AL, IN, FL, KS, KY, LA, ME, MO, OH, and SC.

Research universities and hospitals in those states need to be extra loud.
