Thankfully it didn't happen in the YTV region. Wasn't so lucky when Space: 1999 aired later that decade. Found me furiously channel hopping during The Android Invasion in particular.

Second great issue in newsagents, four more stamps to cut out, lick and stick to the wall chart on my 70's bedroom wall.

Twenty years ago I managed to buy an unused wall chart/stamps from the first 3 issues. A few years ago, issue 5 stamps turned up. Very rare.

It wasn't until I attended a Secret Service convention in Leeds in the mid 80s that I actually got to see my first episodes.

Such was the abysmal take up of the program by the ITV regions.

Head and shoulders above TV Comic.

How interesting, never seen cooking presented in comic strip form before.

One of the finest comics to ever grace a newsagents shelf. Still being actively traded today on Ebay fifty-five years after publication.

An eclectic mix of fact, fiction and fun.

Remember it well. Glued I was to the black and white television.

Didn't understand the half of it but it was so exciting!

Reprinted content seemed much more prevalent later with the center strips of Scarlet & Thunderbirds. To me it was all new although I did get TV21 earlier it had been forgotten about. Think the penny dropped when the Zero-X reprints started to appear.

Agreed. Then later it devolved even further with the re-inking of Tom Baker's likeness over Jon Pertwee's for story reprints. Remember feeling short changed at the time.

Superb story line of returning to earth after a multi-decade mission to find everything had changed completely.

Leading a resistance on the moon with alien "Bill" to give them the edge with their old technology.

Studied this and the strip intensely trying to make sense of what it was about.

Still a couple of months away from transmission on YTV when it would become much clearer and exciting.

Dr Who was glorious in colour and the stories were much better realised with an added realism I was beginning to appreciate.

This was my first view of Gerry Anderson and it amused me that he had more than a passing resemblance to my school headmaster.

Loved the mixture of science and science fiction, perfect for me as a nine year old.

Didn't realise until much later that there were a number of TV21 reprints in there.

Picked mine up at 7am that morning from the local newsagents as delivery and sorting had taken place by then (usually!). Same time as I used to pick up TV Comic but had now switched to this.

Read it avidly from cover to cover several times trying to figure out what UFO was all about...

Knew nothing of it until Countdown and I'd just switched to that from TV Comic as Dr Who had left there after issue 999 to join it. Still a few months seemed like a lifetime. YTV ramped up the tension by randomly peppering the schedule with unannounced opening titles.

15.02.2026 20:46 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

My very first introduction to UFO as the première on YTV was still a few months away. My maternal uncle lived in the ATV region where they had been showing it for a few months by then. Asking him what he thought he said "Rubbish!".

Knew straight away he was so wrong.

It's the least we can do to comfort you in your time of loss. Your writing has been a shining light through these absurd times.

Take all the time you want away, we'll always be here for you.

Thunderbirds 60th anniversary Blu-ray box set has landed and is looking very impressive on 11 discs.

Also contains the 3 Kickstarter funded 50th anniversary episodes previously unreleased on UK disc.

This is going to be the definitive release outside of a full 4k Blu-ray restoration.

Remember watching the first episode and having to sit through the dross to see it and then it was split into two parts.

It was butchered then put through the mincer.

Really sad end to a stellar career.

Recorded it after that, lower quality for sure but much less irritating.

I'm thinking this is the final artwork produced by fans. I do remember there were a number of competitions running over the weekend primarily around costumes so this could have been part of that.

Good observation. Some of the likenesses do look a little too good to be true, if not photographs then probably traced out from them. Not being an art expert I can only guess.

There were allegations especially around the "snowball" games (rollover to you and me) with low numbers being drawn before the call. Nothing I could find to substantiate, could well have been just high temperatures running around big money games.

Site remains empty ten years after fire led to loss of listed cinema OVER a decade after a fierce blaze led to the demolition of a Shipley cinema, the prominent site on which it once stood remains overgrown and…

Shipley's not too far from me.

That will be the Glenroyal Cinema which burnt down in 2013 and had to be demolished.

You're quite right about the alternate shots, only a few had them because they used up disc space. I certainly haven't got any in my collection nor have I ever seen one for that matter.

Looked that address up, it was quite legendary back in the day!

Spent considerable time in Movie Boulevard looking at all they had and wishing I could buy.

Extras are something we're going to miss as the general push is to get everything on streaming. Extras are few and far between on streamers.

John M. Burns if I'm not mistaken. Did such great work on the titular "Countdown" strip. A story I've ignored until recently because it wasn't in the Anderverse. Would be a devil to licence for a reprint with all that 2001 imagery in there.

It really was at the edge of what I could afford in the '90s, the quality was amazing when compared to VHS which was all there was then. Then DVD came along and blew it all away.

Soundtracks? There used to be a great place in Leeds called Movie Boulevard that specialised in those and laserdiscs.
