Oooh! At last, caught sight or my first butterfly of the year this morning - a Red Admiral at Lamplighters Marsh NR, Bristol. A nice variety of bird by the River Avon too, including Redshank and Curlew, plus a pair of Buzzard. (03.03.26) #avonbirds #ukwildlife #ukbutterflies

A late afternoon and 3rd visit of the day to Pilning Wetland produced another early Spring migrant; a Little Ringed Plover on the 1st sentry pool plus the 2nd Cattle Egret of the year. Must be a chance of Sand Martins in the next few days......

A few signs of Spring today with displaying Lapwing and a summer plumage Black-tailed Godwit on Pilning Wetland where 2 Jack Snipe were with 13 Snipe. A flock of 11 Kittiwakes were lingering off Severn Beach on the afternoon high tide.

Lamplighters Marsh, Bristol. Every year I say I don't need more pictures of Robin! Then the sun comes out; they just find a nice spot to sit & sing, posing for passers by with a camera! Heronry at Pill was active. A couple of Canada Goose nearby too, plus two Buzzard circling about. 28.02.26 #birds

A Cormorant perched on a tree branch
A rather handsome Cormorant perched on a tree by the lake at Newton Park (Bath Spa University campus), at Newton St Loe, near #Bath #Somerset #UK. Plenty of fish in that lake, which is the main diet of these birds.

Portbury wharf reserve was lovely this morning. Lots of the usual ducks etc about. Lovely to hear the chiffchaffs starting to sing and we saw a few. The real treat was seeing siskins and a (lesser?) redpoll in the alder trees along the rhyne at the sea wall end. #AvonBirds #PWNR

Spied in the alder trees at Portbury Wharf this morning - a little gang of Siskin and a Redpoll.
Haven't seen a Redpoll before, so that was nice to see.

Now that Severnside's female Hooded Merganser has departed, the task of submitting the record to BBRC can begin. These brilliant images, captured by Bristol birder @brithompson.bsky.social, showing unringed legs and a full set of primaries, will hopefully serve to support the submission #ukbirding

A super 'springlike' morning on Severnside today bagging the very first Hooded Merganser (a 1st winter female on Pilning Wetland) for S. Glos! Nearby a 'passage' Scandinavian Rock Pipit on Shaft Beach.
Many thanks to @andy-1963.bsky.social
A nice rarity at Pilning Wetland this morning, and a lifer for us, this female Hooded Merganser
