I recap Laval's Saturday match against Rochester, set the table for Montreal's visit to LA, and review Reinbacher's Friday-night performance with a ten-minute scouting video. youtube.com/live/k0BxRmu...
Farrell scores to make it 1-0 Laval.
Reinbacher assists, giving him 6 points (and +7) in his last 4 1/3 games. This may (should) be his final game in a Laval uniform. #HabsCast
..and it went downhill from there.

I thought, at the very least, the Habs would try, like a lot of teams, to trade for Lithuanian RD Fewchur Konsideratius, but the Laine contract must have been a major stumbling block.
07.03.2026 00:39 β π 14 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0I watch Laval games all the time. Name an NHL contender who is going to win this year based on what their AHL club is doing?

The Habs are first in the Eastern Conference in goals per game and 14th in goals against. Vastly overpaying to add more offence is NOT the solution IMO.
05.03.2026 15:07 β π 26 π 0 π¬ 3 π 0Another reason I don't think overpaying for Thomas or picking up Kadri is an absolute necessity is that Hage is on the way, and I am comfortable with him and Kapanen as the second-line center options going forward. Habs lead the East in goals per game. Shore up the defence.
05.03.2026 15:06 β π 29 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Oliver Kapanen is on pace for 26 goals as an NHL rookie. The most goals scored by the second-most productive center on a Montreal club in the past 29 years is 21. Not sure that trading for a top-two center is the club's biggest need at this point. Bigger issues on defence IMO.
05.03.2026 15:06 β π 53 π 0 π¬ 8 π 0If he played 13 minutes a night, perhaps he would be serviceable. That's not the case. He averages more than 19 minutes per game. Do you also think he's a great first-unit PK defenceman? Not on a team that is going to contend.
05.03.2026 13:04 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Pointu and Big Bird came out after practice in freezing rain one day. Larry got in his car and soon discovered that the windshield had been covered in vaseline. He had to drive to the nearest gas station with his head out the driver's window. Guy denied all responsibility.

I think it is time to upgrade on Carrier, be it through trade or promotion:

Matthew vs. McDavid...not even close. Lafreniere vs. Schaefer...not even close. Lafleur vs. Harris....not even close. That's the way the ball bounces.

π¨π¨Will LA Bite On Laine?π¨π¨
Dennis Bernstein joins HabsCast (at 8 PM) to discuss the possibility of Patrik Laine landing in Los Angeles before the trade deadline. I set the table for Montreal's game in San Jose tonight. youtube.com/live/9mAM_I5...
Don't let his stats fool you. Zurich forward Vinny Rohrer will join Laval inthe spring and be a key component for the club in the AHL playoffs. Some great video footage in this examination.

This prospect could be a difference maker for Laval in the AHL playoffs. I had a look at him today, and I am REALLY impressed. Join me for a LIVE HABSCAST at 8 pm tonight. #Habs

I don't think the Habs necessarily need high-end pieces to compete for the East. Fortifications at RD and in the bottom six that include size, grit, and veteran leadership. I also think they can fill those needs without trading any of the top-five prospects. The exception would be a Thomas.
01.03.2026 22:53 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0They stood a chance if they had traded for a number-one center, but when all you can dangle is Hudon and you are short on picks....not happening. Toronto/Pitt made deals the last few years for rentals despite having few picks/prospects. The Habs are in a different position right now.
