A man asked me last night what publishing needs to do for literary fiction to begin appealing to men again. I said, as nicely as I could, that, with over 2,000 books published every Tuesday, of which many would appeal to men, it’s not a publishing problem, it’s a men problem.

Imagine being told you, your friends, loved ones and neighbours had to leave your home forever because of the increasing risk of extreme flooding.

That's what's happened in Western Rwanda where deadly floods have hit hard and are likely to return.

I'm lucky enough to have a friend who has, without it looking like hard work, managed to stay in contact with a good 90% of our friend circle and gets us all together 2 or 3 times a year. I feel endlessly indebted to him because it wouldn't occur otherwise.

That's what I thought 😭😭 They've been nesting happily in the shed for years but one of them died in there last year so they've set up under the thatch for this year. If it was anywhere else on the roof!! The dog keeps standing in the poo and tracks it into the house.. Anyway, we'll survive I'm sure

So..the swallows have decided not to live in the shed this year and have built a fine looking nest in the eves above our front door.. Anyone know how to get them to poop elsewhere (Don't shit on your own doorstep etc...!!)??

When I was little, the U.S. military came to our home at gunpoint and took me and my family away. We were imprisoned for years in barbed wire camps simply because we were Japanese American. I have spent my life telling that story, hoping it would never be repeated.

That's actually helpful to know! But it's also disappointing to realize that even in a "safe space", you need to be watchful and mindful..

Today the order banning #PalestineAction as "terrorists" came into effect. But they are not terrorists. They are protesters trying to stop a genocide. This is a "first they came for ..." situation. Unless we stand in solidarity against this assault on our freedom, they will pick us off one by one.

I feel like everything is upside down, in my wildest dreams I never thought that a Labour government could be, and is, regressive - and more to the point, the ways it is regressive.. I'm starting to hope that I am insane and none of this is real
